7 Note: The self-taught option requires students to find (and pay) a tutor on their own. Hvitfeldtska s self-taught coordinator will provide the tutor with guidance on course structure and assessment.

9 Note: You MUST have at least one A-language. If you are on a bilingual level, you can choose two A-languages (Group 1). Then you do not have to choose a B-language (Group 2).

11 Literature = the study of literary texts (novels, plays, poems, etc) Group 1 (Lang A) What is the difference between Literature and Language&Literature? Language&Literature = the study of some literary texts AND the study of language history, dialects, persuasive language in advertising and politics, etc

12 Note: If you take two A-languages, you can only choose one Language&Literature course, because of course contents. You can, however, choose two Literature courses.

15 Note: Swedish B does NOT make you eligible for Swedish universities without additional courses/testing (TISUS test). English B makes you eligible for Swedish universities and most courses at international colleges and universities (except English and Law in the UK).

17 NOTE: If William changes his mind and decides to study at a Swedish university, he will have to do additional testing, usually the TISUS. Students with Swedish B are not automatically eligible to Swedish Universities, even at HL. Student Profiles: William A few English only undergraduate programs exist in Sweden- rules are subject to change so check carefully.

18 Natalia I m from Chile. There I studied English as a second language. Then I moved to Sweden and began studying at Hvitfeldtska. I d like to study business management in the UK or in the US in the future. Group 1: Self-Taught Spanish A, SL Group 2: English B, HL (ok for most UK, US Universities.)

19 Natalia NOTE: English B will suffice for most universities abroad. Yet if you want to study literature, journalism or law in the UK, you will probably need English A, at SL or HL.

20 I grew up in Sweden. I m very fluent in English and I love studying literature as part of the IB1 English course. Still, I can express myself more pertinently and use a wider range of vocabulary and expressions in Swedish after all, it is my mother tongue. Anna Since Anna chooses two A languages, she does not have to choose a B language. Yet she can choose Spanish, German, or French B as well (instead of her Group 6 subject).

22 Abed I speak Arabic at home, but I m also fluent in Swedish and English. I attended The English School before Hvitfeldtska so I m more used to English as the language of instruction. I m stronger in the sciences and I d like to study engineering in the future at a university in Sweden or abroad. Group 1: Swedish A Lang&Lit, SL or English A Lang&Lit, SL Group 2: English B, HL or Swedish B HL, depending on A language

23 Abed NOTE: If Abed wants to study engineering in Sweden, he will have to sit the TISUS test if he chooses Swedish B. English B will make him eligible for most engineering programs abroad. Studying two A languages for a student who wants to focus on the sciences is not a wise choice.

33 Some programmes at Swedish Universities require Biology, Chemistry and Physics. University eligibility: Irregular Diploma Since this does not fit the Diploma Programme model, there is a possibility for schools to offer an Irregular Diploma, which means replacing the Group 3 subject with the required Group 4 one. The Irregular Diploma can ONLY be chosen in the above circumstance.
