10 Stephen Harris DDS for Return to Top MDA Vice President 2014 VOTE MDA VP STEVE MDA VP 1 A Proven Leader, Committed to Maintaining the Relevance of MDA Membership Why Elect Steve? Steve is: Positive, thoughtful, respectful A listener and leader that can bring about consensus on the issues Reliable, the Go to Guy that gets things done VOTE MDA VP STEVE Organized dentistry needs a united voice and alignment to maintain our relevance to outside forces that are trying to determine the future of our profession. We must channel our energies to promote our core values and stand together as our profession is challenged. 3 Maintaining the MDA s relevance requires strong membership. We must engage all Michigan dentists, new dental graduates, specialists, former members and practitioners working in every type of dental setting. We need to encourage them to value what MDA membership offers. I believe I am the candidate to lead our organization in building consensus and in bringing Michigan dentists together as we head into the future. 11 A Proven Leader, Committed to Maintaining the Relevance of MDA Membership Stephen Harris DDS for MDA Vice President 2014 STEVE MDA VP VOTE MDA VP 1 About Steve: MDA member since graduation, 1983 University of Detroit School of Dentistry Full CV available at: VOTE MDA VP STEVE Family: Married to Maureen for 29 years 3 Children: Shannon, Megan and Robert Interests: Steve is an avid golfer that enjoys the camaraderie and competition out on the course. He is a three term past president of the St. Aidan s Men s Club and ushers at the church. Steve is a Sparty through and through. He still plays the tenor sax at the MSU Alumni Band Day. Marching Loud and Proud! Mission of Mercy: MDA Experience: Steve has actively participated in networking functions with Michigan s law makers to help raise the MDA s profile and influence in the legislative arena. Steve is currently the General Chair for the MDA Mission of Mercy project. MDA past president, Connie Verhagen asked the Go to Guy to chair Michigan s first MOM event. Overseeing a project with 1000 volunteers, 350 dentists and the logistical complications of running a 100 chair dental clinic would take someone steady and with a calm demeanor. MDAMOM 2013 in Saginaw was a resounding success and we have great expectations for MDAMOM 2014 in Big Rapids. MDA VP E T O V TEVE S VP 5 Serving two years as MDA Treasurer, four years on the Board Committee on Finance Steve has championed dues stabilization through prudent financial management of reserves and frugal spending. Increasing our reserves and developing a Strategic Project Reserve Fund solidify the MDA financially. Forward planning is key to being able to respond to legislative challenges, an unexpected economic downturn or the uncertainties the Affordable Care Act may bring. Steve served on Peer Review/Dental Care committees for thirteen years, five in Detroit District and eight at the MDA, becoming the chair of both. This service has refined Steve s skill as a mediator, collaborator and one who has demonstrated the ability to work to consensus. He is a good listener who values the opinions of others and welcomes them into the discussion.
