1 OXFORD CENTRAL SCHOOL BULLETIN December 16, 2016 It is always very special for me to share the good news about our Governor s Educators of the Year! There are two categories for this recognition and our staff members have submitted names that were considered by a committee of past Teacher of the Year recipients. The Educational Specialist of the Year is Mrs. Rachel Chiara, our Speech Therapist! The Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Renee Hart! Both Mrs. Chiara and Mrs. Hart are leaders in their respective fields! They volunteer their time for various organizations at OCS and they truly make a difference every single day here at OCS. Thank you to Mrs. And Mrs. Sandorff who donated 5 Chromebooks to be used by Mrs. Hill and our students!! The five Chromebooks, along with the district s recent purchase of Type to Learn, allow greater access to technology for the students. My wish for all of our students, their families and our entire staff is to have a safe and joyful holiday! This time of the year is special for many reasons, one of which is family. As your family and friends gather to celebrate, may the true reason for the season be remembered. Best wishes for a joyful holiday and a happy new year! Till next year R. Magnuson

2 Mrs. Kantz 7th Grade History We have been working on group projects to cover chapter 11 in our history book. This chapter begins to outline how the North and the South are growing in different directions. Our goal this year is to cover the Civil War and Reconstruction of the South. This project had the students create a poster, quiz questions, and an outline of their section studied. They will be presenting these projects to the class next week. When we come back from our winter break we will be starting chapter 12 - An Age of Reform ( ). This section will take us up to Westward Expansion and the start of the Civil War. Ms. Dean s ELA Class News December 16 th, 2016 The 7 th graders are currently working on their end of the unit essay in which they incorporate information they ve gathered from all the articles and stories they have read so far. Students are doing really well with not only recalling information from earlier this year, but also recalling writing strategies for persuasive essays that they learned last year! Very impressive! Before our winter break, students will be reading The Christmas Carol. This story always initiates much discussion about the need to keep the feeling of giving in our hearts all year long (not just during the holidays). I m curious to see how students react to some of Scrooge s absurd behaviors during the play!

3 OCS students have been very festive these past two weeks! They are definitely in high spirits! The cheerfulness can be attributed to the below. 3 rd Annual Door Decorating Contest! The 5th grade students will be determining the class winner. Mrs. Kimball and Mrs. Lurz created a rubric for them to use when judging each door. The class winner will receive ice cream. 11 Mrs. Nemeth s 8 th grade students learned about the concept of parody. They had to select a recognizable person from history, entertainment, fiction, or other celebrity, and then add holiday details to alter the image in a humorous, clever, creative or satirical way.

Every February dentists throughout NJ offer free dental care for children ages 12 and younger. In 2017, Give Kids A Smile Day is Friday, February 3rd. There are over 100 participating dental offices available for parents to schedule an appointment at a location of their choice. Give Kids A Smile NJ would like to help your students start each school day with a healthy smile!
