6 Mental Health vs. Mental Illness Mental health is the capacity of each and all of us to feel, think, and act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face. Mental illness is a disturbance in thoughts and emotions that decreases a person s capacity to cope with the challenges of everyday life.
