7 Talking about mental health If you think a student could benefit from some additional support, broach the subject with terms such as stress and pressure, particularly in relation to workload. Let them know there are places in the university where they can discuss any stress they may be under, in confidence. What is a Crisis a serious concern that a student is at risk of harming themselves or others; their behaviour or state of mind is causing undue concern e.g severe self harm; suicide; harm to others 7

8 RED Level 3 Immediate risk: Are you worried that a student is at risk of harming themselves or others if no action is taken straight away? On campus, call Security on Ext. 6666, and ask them to call emergency services. Off campus, call 999. Call the Wellbeing Service Ext or Ext for follow up support. AMBER Level 2 Increasing concerns: Is a student showing signs of not coping? Are they talking about finding things difficult or are you worried that they may be at risk? Contact the Wellbeing Service Ext or Ext GREEN Level 1 Emerging Concerns: Are you concerned about a student s general wellbeing or worried that they don t seem to be their usual self? Talk to them and tell them about the support available. Call the Wellbeing Service Ext or Ext Refer to Fitness to Study guidance.
