3 What is a Career Develoment Event? Career Develoment Events (CDE s) focus on student success and skill develoment Skills enhanced by a CDE: Critical thinking Communication Effective erformance Technical/Hands-on skills

4 Why Particiate? Students will benefit from CDE s by: Develoing relevant career skills Develoing teamwork skills Develoing social/networking skills Gain recognition for effort Comete at a local, state, and national level Winners at the national level get scholarshis FUN!

5 When do you comete? Midwinter Conference-December in Mesa Sring Conference- March in Tucson State Leadershi Conference- June in Tucson National Convention- October in Indianaolis (if you win a state cometition)

7 Creed Seaking CDE Oen to 7 th, 8 th, and 9 th grade students only Present the creed from memory Learn ublic seaking and resentation skills

8 Information CDE Oen to first year members Student memorize questions and answers about FFA history, current events, etc.

9 Ag Sales CDE 4 member team Perform a rofessional sales rocess including customer relations, dislays, advertising and romotion, and telehone skills on a roduct of the teams choice

10 Food Science CDE 4 Member team The cometition covers roduct develoment and resentation, along with food safety issues and identification. Do articiate in sensory alications

11 Floriculture CDE 4 member team Develos skills in arranging, roagation and merchandising flowers and foliage. Includes lant identification, judging of arrangements and roblem solving. Members also demonstrate their skills in flower arranging, roagation, rearation of floral and foliage roducts for sale.

13 Agronomy CDE 4 member team Comlete a 50-question written exam; identify seeds, insects, soils and cros; demonstrate knowledge of agronomic management and solve a ractical roblem.

14 Job Interview CDE 1 to 2 members Students comlete a telehone interview, ersonal interview, and a anel interview Turn in a resume, cover letter, business card, emloyment alication, and thank you letter

15 Nursery/Landscae 4 member team Students comlete a written exam, identify lant materials and equiment, lant disorders, and interret landscae lans

16 Entomology CDE 3 to 4 members Students comlete a written exam, and identify insects of different secies State Only cometition

17 Wildlife CDE 4 members Students comlete a wildlife identification ortion, written exam, GPS skill, reading toograhic mas, and a grou activity Winners can go to National Convention for the Environmental and Natural Resources CDE

18 Soils CDE 4 members Students comlete a written exam and then do four ractical evaluations of soil based on four different areas. Winners can travel to Oklahoma for the National Soils Cometition in the summer.

19 Aquaculture CDE 4 members Comlete a written exam, fish identification, and then four ractical alications State Only cometition

21 Parliamentary Procedure CDE 6 members Students comlete a written exam, run a mock meeting using roer arliamentary rocedure, and comlete roer minutes

22 Preared and Extem Public Seaking Preared Extem Preare a seech about an agricultural toic and resent in to the judges Answer questions ertaining to the seech Given a toic and thirty minutes to reare a seech on the given toic using resources Answer questions ertaining to seech from judges

23 Agriscience Fair 1 to 2 members Comlete research in a scientific disciline and create a resentation oster to be resented Biochemistry/Food Science/Microbiology Environmental Science Zoology Botany Engineering

24 Ag Issues CDE 4 to 6 members Create a 15 minute resentation about a toic in agriculture and reare a ortfolio of information regarding the toic

25 Agricultural Education CDE 1 member Students create a lesson lan, teach a class, do a demonstration, and reare materials like an FFA advisor
