3 WELCOME! SWAMP CHALLENGE ATHLETES, We are so excited to have you participating at the 2017 Swamp Challenge! Congrats on being one of the 300 athletes participating in our 8th year of the Swamp Challenge. It is because of you that this event has become what it is: a celebration of community within the heart of the Gator Nation. Our goal is to provide a one-of-a-kind experience to all athletes. We realize that this event would not be possible without you and want to make sure that you have all of the information to make your day as easy as possible. Included in this guide is information on the venue, schedules and competition information. Athlete check-in is mandatory for all athletes. Athlete check-in will be Friday, April 21st from 4pm 9pm at Dick s Sporting Goods. Athletes will receive swag bags and be able to shop Dick s Sporting Goods with discount coupons. If you re unable to make athlete check-in on Friday, we will have late athlete check-in available Saturday morning at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - North Ticket Office from 7:00am 8:00am. Competition will begin at 8:30am on the North Lawn on Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Included in this information packet are maps with information on athlete village, vendor village, parking, start/finish locations and food options. Make sure to stick around and join us for the Official Swamp Challenge After Party at First Magnitude Brewing Company! After an exciting day of fitness on the Florida Gator s home field, make sure to join friends and fellow athletes for a local brew at First Magnitude. 5 CHECK-IN INFO WHERE: Dick s Sporting Goods Plaza Blvd #20, Gainesville, FL WHEN: Friday, April 21st from 4pm 9pm Athlete check-in is mandatory. We recommend that all athletes check-in Friday evening. LATE CHECK-IN: WHERE: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium North Ticket Office Gale Lemerand Dr, Gainesville, FL WHEN: Saturday, April 22 from 7:00am 8:00am INSTRUCTIONS: All athletes must bring a valid photo ID. We highly recommend that all athletes check-in on Friday night. Fitness Competition athletes may check-in for their teammates by providing a photo ID (digital picture of photo ID is valid). Our team is not responsible for any delays during Saturday AM check-in. If you re in the first heat, it is your responsibility to be there on time. 3

6 WORKOUTS WORKOUT # 1 ADVENTURE RACE Both athletes will complete the Adventure Race. Score is total time for both partners to complete the race. Partner 1 time + Partner 2 time = Score WORKOUT # 2 CLEAN LADDER LOCATION: FRONT LAWN 1 MINUTE TO COMPLETE 1 CLEAN + 1 HANG CLEAN (ANY WAY) WITHOUT PUTTING THE BAR DOWN. Both partners will lift within the same minute and progress together through the ladder. There will be a 15 second transition between 1 barbells. There will only be one barbell per station per team with the exception of Co-ed, they will have two barbells, and will only have one athlete lifting at a time. Athletes can make as many attempts as they would like during the one minute TIE BREAKERS: On bars 1-7, if you miss the rep, you can choose to re-try, or do as many over the bar burpees as possible in remaining time for tie breaker (1 burpee = 0.01). If you make it to the end of the ladder (Bar 8), the tie breaker will be max reps hang clean instead of burpees. Example: 1 Clean + Hang Clean Max Reps (each extra hang cleans = 1lb added to total). Once one person fails at a bar that same person does burpees for points, then partner 2 can continue until their final bar. STANDARDS: Clean & Hang Clean can be either power or squat. Bar begins on the floor and ends with both feet under the hip, hip and knees fully extended, and elbows in front of the bar. After completion of the first clean, the hang clean must be performed before putting the bar down. The hang must remain above the knee and end with both feet under the hip, hip and knees fully extended, and elbows in front of the bar. 7 WORKOUT # 3 MAX CALS ASSAULT BIKE LOCATION: FRONT LAWN WORKOUTS CONT. Upon completion of the 8th bar in the clean ladder, there will be 1 minute rest before beginning workout 3. MAX CALS ASSAULT BIKE (BOTH ATHLETES SHARE 1 MINUTE) Both partners must get at least 1 calorie Start with feet on pegs and hands on handles STANDARDS: Each team will have 1 minute to accumulate as many calories as possible in 1 minute Both partners must complete at least 1 calorie. Athlete #1 can begin the minute sitting on the bike with hands ON the handles and feet ON the PEGS At the call of TIME the athlete on the bike must immediately stop biking and remove their feet from the pedals. The accumulated score will be the rolling total of Calories WORKOUT 4 PARTNER COUPLET LOCATION: FIELD 5 MIN AMRAP One person working at a time, alternating after completing an entire round of: 5 DEADLIFTS 5 BOX JUMPS SCALED MASTERS RX DEADLIFTS 155/ / /135 BOX JUMPS 20IN/20IN (step-ups permitted) 20IN/20IN 24IN/20IN STANDARDS: One partner must remain behind the starting line at all times Each athlete must complete the entire round (Deadlifts & Box Jumps) before tagging out Score is total reps accumulated for the team Deadlift: Bar begins on the floor, athlete must have hand position outside of feet & knees. Movement ends when hips and knees are fully extended with shoulders behind the bar. The box jump is initiated from two feet and athlete must land on two feet. Athlete must show full hip extension ON TOP of the box before jumping or stepping down. Scaled divisions can step up and down, but must also show both feet on top of the box with hip fully extended before stepping down. After completion of the 5 minutes, the team will have 3 minutes to rest before beginning Workout 5. 5

The athlete must move the DB in one fluid motion from the ground to overhead with one arm. The finished position is with the arm fully extended, bicep covering the ear, and with hips and knees fully extended. Athlete MUST alternate each rep which can be done on the ground or in transition. Single Arm KB Thrusters: Movement begins with KB in front rack position. Athlete must squat to or below parallel with KB in front rack position, and end with KB overhead with arm, hips, and knees fully extended and bicep covering ear. Front rack position: Hand must be at or below chin level to be considered front rack Handstand Pushup: Movement begins and in the handstand with arms locked out, and feet on the wall. The head must touch the mat at return to starting position. Athletes may kip as long as they return to beginning position. Hand Release Pushup: Pushup begins and ends in the top (plank) position. All reps are to be done on the toes with chest being the first to touch the ground, and the last things leaving the ground. Hands release at bottom position. Sled Pull: Athlete must have feet behind line and remain standing to progress sled via forward pull. 6

9 DAY OF COMPETITION INFO Athletes will be given a heat schedule can be found on the day before the event. This schedule will show where the athlete needs to be and when he/ she needs to be there. ADVENTURE RACE COMPETITORS: All athletes will be required to wear their chip timer on the front of their body during the entirety of the adventure race. The Awards Ceremony will be held on the field following the event. FITNESS COMPETITORS All athletes will be required to wear their chip timer on the front of their body during the entirety of the adventure race. Warm-up Areas: Only athletes are allowed into the warm-up areas, coaches, and spectators must stay out of the warm up area. Warm-up area locations will change for each event. Check out the map HERE for more details. Athlete Briefing: It is the responsibility for both teammates to check in to each event 15 minutes prior to their heat time. Our athlete liaison will review the standards, and answer any questions prior to your heat. Equipment & WOD Accessories: Belts, Jump Ropes, and hydration are the only accessories (other than those you wear on your body - wrist wraps, knee sleeves, tape, etc...) allowed on the competition floor. SCORING All scoring disputes must be brought to the attention of the Head Judge IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR WORKOUT. Any behavior deemed inappropriate by the Head Judge, aimed towards your judge will be ground for immediate disqualification from the event. Any scoring issues must also be handled immediately. In the rare occasion there is a data entry error in the RedBelt Digital scoring system, it is the athlete s responsibility to politely address it with our scoring table. 7

10 RULES/GENERAL INFO Sportsmanship is an important piece of fitness competition. We hold all athletes to the highest standard of consideration, fairness and respect for fellow athletes, judges and spectators. Any behavior that falls outside of these standards will be referred to the Director. The Swamp Challenge reserves the right to expel any athlete from competition, without warning, for unsportsmanlike conduct. GENERAL INFO: Athletes may bring a 10x10 tent to set up in athlete village. Athletes may bring coolers with their own food. Food must be stored outside the stadium in athlete village. Spectators are allowed to bring their own camera, but must stay in spectator areas at all times. PARKING: Parking regulations are lifted on Saturday. Closest parking to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is the North Lot of the Stephen C O Connell Center. Parking info for the University of Florida: edu/parking-at-uf/parking-map/ MISC: Only service dogs are allowed at the event. Restrooms are available throughout the stadium. In the event of inclement weather, workout and workout location will be modified to maintain athlete safety. 8
