17 Long Term VAD Support: Axial Flow Pumps Works off of the same principle as the Archimedes screw. Advantageous over pulsatile pumps because of their valve free structure with continuous flow. Axial pumps operate at higher RPMs (>8000) compared to centrifugal pumps at lower RPMs (>2000) which can potentially lead to clinical implications such as hemolysis.
