2 Special Thank You Our sincere appreciation and gratitude to our many volunteers who have given their time, talents, and support to the Just Fight Foundation to ensure we fulfill our mission. Ally s Story On December our lives changed forever. Our 7 year old daughter Ally was taking a bath when we heard a faint thump. After calling up to her went unanswered, we immediately ran upstairs to check on her. Finding our only daughter completely submerged and blue we instinctively started CPR. We were able to get her heart beating and gasping breaths before EMT s arrived. Ally was air lifted to The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia where she spent 4 weeks in the ICU on maximum life support receiving several blood transfusions. She spent a total of 4 months in the hospital. It was during this, the hardest time of our lives, that whenever we had to leave her ICU bedside we asked Ally to Just Fight. Over the next 3 months, at the hospital for rehabilitation, is when we really learned what having a child with an anoxic brain injury would involve. Thanks to the outpouring support of our community and the Just Fight attitude we were inspired to help others in a similar fight. The Just Fight Foundation was started with hopes that we could spread awareness of the importance of CPR, host blood drives, and help others in times of crisis. It is our Volunteers that make this day an overwhelming success. 4 The Just Fight Foundation is committed to: raising awareness for the importance of blood donations by partnering with the American Red Cross Donated blood helped save Ally Turner s life! Many who experience traumatic brain injuries require tremendous amounts of blood. Ally was placed on an ECMO machine, which takes the blood out of her body, gives it oxygen and sends it back into her body requiring several blood transfusions. Her parents wanted part of the mission of the Just Fight Foundation to be dedicated to raising awareness for blood donations ensuring that their tragedy encourages others to help save lives. Thank You to Our Food Sponsors In fulfilling our mission, the Foundation hosts 3 blood drives per year in honor of Ally Turner, but we also urge people to donate blood as much as possible. A donor can donate whole blood every 56 days, power red every 112 days and platelets every 7 days. IMPORTANT BLOOD DONATION FACTS: According to the American Red Cross, every 2 seconds some one in the U.S. needs blood. 4.5 million Americans would die each year without life-saving blood transfusions. 30,000 units of red blood cells are needed in the U.S. every day. Each year, trauma accounts for approximately 41 million emergency department visits and 2.3 million hospital admissions in the U.S., according to the National Trauma Institute. A single car accident victim can need as many as 100 units of blood! Each unit you donate (about 1 pint) can be divided into the three primary components red blood cells, plasma, and platelets saving up to three lives. The Just Fight Foundation makes our blood drives an experience our drives offer fun giveaways and snacks and celebrate life and the community coming together! In past drives, we have celebrated Ally s birthday, collected hundreds of supplies for CHOP and the Connelly Foundation and celebrated Christmas complete with hot cocoa and Santa! Over the past 4 drives, we have collected a total of 262 pints of blood! The Just Fight Foundation is extremely proud to say that in a little less than 2 years and 4 blood drives we have helped save 786 lives!

Through our financial assistance program, the Just Fight Foundation has donated thousands of dollars to families in the form of cash and gift cards that are intended to help cover incidental expenses families incur during their hospital stay. In August of 2017, the Just Fight Foundation granted our annual Ally Award to an 8 year old boy named Devlin who is recovering from an anoxic brain injury suffered in July of Devlin is a source of hope but he still needs to be at physical therapy 3 times a week. This is a huge expense for the family that is not covered by insurance but is necessary to Devlin s recovery. The financial resources that Devlin received were to cover his therapy costs. Recovery from a brain injury can be a long process and often takes many years of tremendous medical costs. 448 N. Easton Rd. 6 The Just Fight Foundation is committed to: providing access to training in emergency preparedness and life saving techniques. Since our inception The Just Fight Foundation has: Introduced over 100 individuals to the basics of CPR though our CPR informational seminars. Partnered with Jefferson Hospital at Abington to provide self-guided CPR training materials to parents of babies born in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Installed an AED (Automated Electronic Defibrillator) at GYAC s baseball complex. All of the coaches were provided with some basic instruction on CPR and how to use the AED. Granted scholarships to numerous individuals to go and get CPR certified through the American Heart Association We are currently working on legislation that would make CPR certification mandatory for all high school students. We have partnered with our local government officials and rallied support by collecting signatures of those who favor this legislation. There is currently a bill in the PA House that addresses this topic, but in the coming months we will be working on creating a bill that will be presented to the PA Senate that would make Pennsylvania the 38th state to mandate CPR in high schools. The passing of this bill into law would give us 180,000 new life savers per year.
