Centers every weekend

9 Regulatory Agencies Required Documentation CalEPA CA Environmental Reporting System (CERS) Hazwaste Inventory Emergency Response & Training Plans 303 Contingency Plan Emergency Contacts Evacuation Plan Due to CalRecycle by October 1 each year California regulations (CCR, Title 14, Division 7, Chapter 9, ) mandate that each public agency responsible for HHW management shall ensure the amount of material (in pounds) collected through their program during the preceding reporting period (July 1 - June 30)

11 S.A.F.E. Center Operations Operating Hours for the Public: 9am-3pm, Saturdays & Sundays 8am-2pm, Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays (UCLA Only) S.A.F.E. Center services are free of charge to L.A. City & County residents who bring waste from their homes

13 S.A.F.E. Center Operations Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles and are kept away from waste sorting areas. City Staff conduct a survey with the resident to gather information: Zip Code Type of Waste (E-Waste or HHW) Previous Participant

14 S.A.F.E. Center Operations All waste is handled by trained professionals through contracted vendor HHW is unloaded from vehicles, sorted and placed in proper shipping containers

16 S.A.F.E. Center Operations Shipping containers are then stored in special waste lockers and transported to a recycling and disposal facility on a weekly basis All waste storage lockers are equipped with secondary containment sumps and a fire suppression system.

19 CESQG Program CONDITIONALLY EXEMPT SMALL QUANTITY GENERATOR (CESQG) CESQG Program For a nominal fee, small businesses can also use the S.A.F.E. Collection Centers By APPOINTMENT ONLY: Call (213) Requirements: Business must be located within the County of Los Angeles Generate less than 220 pounds or 27 gallons of hazardous waste per month (e.g. paints, solvents, aerosol cans, photographic chemicals, asbestos)
