Workshop Area 4 Spiritual [Preachers, Deacons, Laymen, Literature] 4.1 Boyhood This is a step and an age of innocence, an age of learning boundaries, respect, and accountability to authority. As young boys they need to learn how to resolve conflict with other children. Boys need to be taught how to build relationships, and

15 how to respond morally to the choices that they must make Fathers in particular must set the moral tone and the relational tone of our families, so our boys can take the next step up to Adolescence Adolescence A teenage young man can be characterized by selfishness, hormones, conflict, rebellion, anger, and because of his emergence into sexual maturity lust A boy moving into adolescence can get very, very confused. He needs a man who is higher up on the steps to lead him through this phase. He needs a man to help him step on up to maturity and become the man that God has called him to be. He needs a vision that calls him to turn from selfishness and step up. If the call comes, and the teenager responds, he is eventually able to take another step up to Manhood Manhood What is a real Man? In essence manhood involves five things: Initiative nothing comes to a man by waiting. And to become a real man, we must step out and assume responsibility Courage a man is never more of a man than when he is defeating fear by stepping out and risking his life, his comfort, and his agenda to protect his community, wife, and family. His protection should not merely be the physical safety, but the moral, spiritual, and emotional well-being of those allotted to his charge Sacrificial Love a real man gives up his life for his sheep. He loves others and denies himself. He is tough, but tender Servant Leader a real man doesn t cling to his rights, he gives them up so that he can meet the needs of those he leads at home, at work, and in his community Mission he is a man who knows what he is about and where he is headed and can take others with him. Here is the man who has found the adventure that His Creator has for him and is living it out all his days Mentor I believe God has more for men beyond manhood; I believe He wants us to become mentors to other men. As He teaches us, we reach out with His wisdom and love to boys who are facing adolescence, to teens who need to move to manhood, and to the men who need to become mentors. Every man ought to make it his goal to be a mentor to some one Patriarch/Elder The term Patriarch in Scripture is a term of dignity and nobility. It is a heavenly mandate that falls upon a man in his later years A patriarch is a man who is finishing well and is using his influence to encourage others to do the same. This is a man who calls his family to take spiritual responsibility for Christ s Great Commission. He calls them to turn away from the lust of the flesh, of materialism, and devote themselves to reaching their world. He calls them to that

16 which will last for eternity A patriarch is not perfect. His family is not perfect. A patriarch is a man who is enjoying the fruit of his labors and experiencing the reward of his hands Life Skills 5.1. Dining Etiquette 5.2. Transportation Schedules & Bookings 5.3.
