Designed for behavioral health peer workforce by SAMHSA-HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions Whole Health Action Management (WHAM) training is a peer-led intervention to activate whole health self-management to create and sustain new health behaviors in Community Mental Health Centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Health Homes, and Veterans Administration programs
6 What is Included in a Two-Day Two trainers WHAM Training? All materials to implement WHAM (participant manual, weekly action plan booklet, implementation manual, and link to all training handouts) Technical Assistance National listserv
7 WHAM 5 Keys to Success A person-centered goal focused on 10 sciencebased whole health and resiliency factors A weekly action plan that breaks the goal into small, achievable successes A daily/weekly personal log One-to-one peer support A weekly WHAM peer support group
8 WHAM 10 Science-Based Health and Resiliency Factors 1. Stress management 2. Healthy eating 3. Physical activity 4. Restful sleep 5. Service to others 6. Support network 7. Optimism based on positive expectations 8. Cognitive skills to avoid negative thinking 9. Spiritual beliefs and practices 10. A sense of meaning and purpose
9 Self-Management Skills Engage in personcentered planning to identify strengths and supports in 10 sciencebased whole health and resiliency factors Write an achievable whole health goal using the IMPACT process Create and log a weekly action plan
10 Self-Management Skills, Continued Participate in peer one-to-one and peer support groups to create new whole health habits Elicit the relaxation response to manage stress Engage in cognitive skills to avoid negative thinking Know basic whole health prevention screenings and how to prepare for them Use shared-decision-making skills for more engaging meetings with doctors

12 Tie Goals to Benefit If IMPACT criteria can t be met, ask following questions to tie goal to personal benefit: Why do you want this goal? What will the benefits be? How will your life be different if you accomplish this goal? What will you be able to do that you can t, or aren t, doing now?
