1 Governor's Message As the New Year begins, we think about our future while we reminisce about our past. We look to see what we have could have done better in our lives. We even make resolutions to that effect. When we look back we see all the good things and the bad things seem to fade into learning experiences. Does you Lions club go through a yearly review to see what can be changed for the better? Do you share your club s successes with others? Why does it have to be that way? I am asking each Lion to come up with a way to get the largest service organization in the world more visible in your district. I am not asking for fundraisers, but on how we can get the word out on our community service. Please me them and we will start to put them in the newsletter. At the end of this newsletter you will see some great things that the clubs in our district are doing. You will also see some clubs that did not report for the last month. I would like to see, for the month of March, each club promote a service project or just enter their membership number in both MyLCI and the district website. If we can t promote ourselves, then how is the public supposed to support us? The second half of the Lions year, and my district governor year, has come. We have some exciting things coming up. Our multiple district is endorsing an International Director. Voting is being held on February 2nd at the 3rd state council meeting in Altoona. During our 3rd cabinet meeting we will be nominating our District Governor and the VDGs. Plus the Bowling tournament in March, the spring rally, and my final cabinet meeting. There is still a lot to do. We are only -43 members since July 1st. If each club can be a +2, than we can finish with a growth. I can t remember the last time we have accomplished that. January 2019 Just remember that we provide hope and assistance to the people who need it at their most vulnerable times in their life. If it wasn t for you, who would give them that hope? 2 VDG Messages Happy New Year 2019! Will this be a great year of service for your Lions Club? Notice I said service, not fundraising. We Lions do a lot of fundraising. Some clubs only do fundraising and check writing. These are very valuable types of service, no doubt. But the best way to get the community, and potential new members, interested in your club is by living our motto: We Serve! Challenge your club to undertake one new service project before the end of June. Get out into the community and get your hands dirty. The options are endless. Need help? Partner with another Lions Club near you, or partner with another organization like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, Rotary, or the Kiwanis. Students are always looking for service hours opportunities and may be willing to help if you reach out. Ask them to bring a parent along to help too. Find a great way to make an impact on your community. Build a pavilion at a park, clean up a park, do a roadside cleanup, plant trees or flowers, provide vision screenings, provide diabetes screenings whatever it is, make your club visible and invite other non-members to join you. It s the best way to get people to see what we do; by joining us in service. Also take pictures. Share them on social media so others can see what you do. Ask your members and followers to share and comment on them so others can see them. Invite the newspaper, or send your pictures to the local newspaper for greater exposure. Media can help us tell our story of service and let others truly see how we make a difference in the community. As we start the new year, make a list of all the activities your club does. Then separate them into two columns (fundraisers and service) so you can see the breakout for your club. It s often surprising how much time and energy we put into fundraising, and we are so good at it. But, don t neglect serving your community directly. It makes a difference and when you invite others to help, new members join to be part of your club. It s a rare individual who joins because they really want to sell raffle tickets. Looking forward to another great year of service with all of you! Please continue to invite me to meetings, projects, and fundraisers and I ll try to get to as many as I can. Dear Fellow Lions, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and rang in the New Year safely with friends and family you hold close and dear to your hearts. It is hard to believe that by the time you are reading this that 2018 will be in the past and we will be well into the first month of As I grow older, the time seems to go by faster & faster each and every year. I have a good feeling about 2019 and feel that it is going to be a great year for Lions!! As a reminder to all clubs, the new year means new positions in your clubs will need filled. So I am asking that you please take some time and fill all of your club positions, so that all positions are occupied.make sure that you provide information and training to those new officers coming in so they are ready to handle what comes their way. If you need help with this task, please reach out to your Zone Chair or other District Officers for assistance. Spring is right around the corner, so another topic to keep in mind are your Service Projects. What have you done in the past, what new ideas do you have? I am very interested in hearing what projects and ideas you have in mind and would be more than happy to lend a hand when I am able to do so, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me. 4 Women and Families in Lions As we start the year of 2019 in District 14E, let's enter it with open arms. Invite the husbands and wives that aren't members yet. Let them sit in on our meeting, hear their ideas, and answers to why they haven't joined the club. The Vandergrift Lions Club discussed this at their last meeting. They have decided to start opening up meeting to members to bring a spouse or guest to each meeting. The fee would be the cost of the meal. Not only does the club hope to get new ideas, but hope to add members too. Robb and I have taken a look back, when people wanted to be a member of the club. Where it meant something to them and society. It was nothing when the club had 100 members and if you didn't make a meeting once a month, you better have a good excuse or you would be kicked out...now we are happy with any member that just pays their dues. Times have changed. We all have one thing in common, to help others and our community. So let's go do that. Let's look for those new Lions that could be right beside us. Invite them to each meeting and share a meal with us. As always I am here to help. In Lionism Amy Yasczak State Dues Structure State per capita dues are collected to provide revenue to defray the administrative expenses of the Multiple District and each sub-district and a Multiple District Convention Fund, annual per capita dues of $16.00 per member per year are collected. These dues are collected in two semi-annual payments based upon a club s membership total as shown by Lions Clubs International (LCI) as of July 1 and January 1 of each fiscal year. As is the case with LCI for international dues, state per capita dues are not pro-rated for members added or dropped from club membership rolls after July 1 and before December 30 and/or after January 1 and before June 30. State per capita dues collected are used, distributed and credited as follows: State Convention Administrative Fund: $0.45/member/year International Convention Fund: $0.85/member/year Promotional Fund: $0.35/member/year District Governors International Conv. Fund: $0.35/member/year Sub-District Administrative Fund: $2.50/member/year PA News Publication Fund (The PRIDE): $1.50/member/year All State Band: $1.50/member/year

11 PA LIONS CARE FOR THE KIDS MD 14 Fundraising Plan November 15, May 15, 2019 Lions of Pennsylvania Goal: $90,000 MD 14 s goal to raise $15,000 per month from November 15, May 15, 2019, in support of Four Diamonds. If each of the 17 districts in Pennsylvania, collect a total per district for the year , of$5,300 we will reach our goal! Approximately $882 in donations, per month for 6 months, divided by an average of 40 clubs in each district =$ per club TOTAL). Now, let s round it up... How does your club raise $140, for the kids, by May 15? Start by sharing the goal with your club members. Collect a $20 donation from 7 people. Collect a $5.00 donation from 28 people. Collect $1.00, $2.00, or $3.00 from people. Or, have a carwash, sell subs, or host a dance, just to name a few. The Lions of Pennsylvania are standing up to our motto: "We Serve," by assisting Four Diamonds in its mission to conquer childhood cancer. "Where There's a Need, There's a Lion." In the U.S., more children die from cancer than any other disease, with 16,000 kids diagnosed every year. We are working to change this by partnering with Four Diamonds to conquer childhood cancer through world-class care, transformative philanthropy and lifesaving research. Four Diamonds supports more than 80 pediatric oncology research professionals at Penn State College of Medicine who conduct the full spectrum of cancer research. The Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Center is not only benefiting children at Penn State Children's Hospital, but also children and families around the world. 12 Greetings Lions of 14-E, 2019!!! its time to start putting together our plans to host Olympic Village at the Special Olympics Winter Games at Seven Springs on Sunday, February 10, :00 to 4:00 (set up at 11:00 am). I extend invitations to you again this year to partner with 14-J Lions. There are less athletes this year so we are well supplied with scarves, however, I would really like to see you again to interact with the athletes with activities such as corn hole, Bingo, dress up photo bombing, UNO, word search/crosswords. Do Lions have Fun and Serve? See attached photos from last year. Also, consider PDG Tom Gregg' is looking for Healthy Athlete on eye screening for Monday/Tuesday Feb. 11th, 12.
