2 Page 2 President s Messages & Announcements: Pres. Mike O Sullivan welcomed us with Hello! How is everybody? The Pres then asked if we had any guests. We welcomed Dick Mellinger from the Central Coast Passport Club who introduced Keith Stowers, Girl s Basketball coach at Coast Union High School. Sue Robinson introduced our speaker and former club member, Maleika Lacey. Pres. Mike reported that Bruce and Jane Howard would be representing out Club at the RI Convention in Toronto. Pres. Mike reminded us that there is a Community Service meeting on June 8th at 11:00 in the lounge at the Lodge; a Foundation Board meeting on June 13th at 5:00 at the Lodge and a Chamber Mixer on June 13th at 5:30 at Mezzo Italiano (in the former Allocco s Italian Bakery site). Visiting Rotarian, Dick Mellinger, introduced CUHS Girl s Basketball coach, Keith Stowers. Keith told us that CUHS has a very strong girl s basketball team but they are desperately in need of funding. He is hoping some of the local clubs can help out. Mary Ann Carson announced that VIVA is still in need of someone to chair the Silent Auction. She also told us that Grand Raffle tickets and flyers shave been printed, thanks to Julie Amodei, and that Sue O. will be passing the tickets out next week. Please do your best to buy/sell at least one ticket. This raffle represents a large chunk of the profit for VIVA so it is important that everyone do what they can to make it a success. Otis Archie suggested that a good way to get silent auction items is to bring a basket to a business that you know and ask them to fill the basket. It is easier for them and for those putting the silent auction items together. Paul Young asked for volunteers to help set up the Smoothy Booth for July 4th. This is a big job and bodies are needed if we want to continue participating in this event. See Paul if you can help with set up and/or take down. Sue Robinson thanked all the Rotarians that came to support the Tip A Cop event supporting Special Olympics. Sue Robinson announced that out club is taking over the annual Christmas Tree Auction which will benefit Rotary AND many non-profits in town More information will be provided in the coming weeks. Sue Robinson (yes, she was still talking) reported that the Lions is asking if our club will once again be selling Pinedorado raffle tickets. As in the past, Rotary will receive 25% of the total tickets sold. Otis Archie volunteered to take this on. Sheriff Dick Sheriff Dick had a bad week until last night at the New Board/Old Board Social where he caught Dr. Joe with a glass of wine in his hand but no pin.

5 Page 5 ROTARY CLUB OF CAMBRIA FOUNDATION The Rotary Club of Cambria Foundation, Inc. (our Foundation) is a qualified 501(c)(3) entity that has established a permanent endowment fund, the goal of which is to ultimately generate income sufficient to ease the pressure of fundraising. Our Foundation receives the proceeds of fundraisers (e.g. VIVA, Chili Cook-Off Beer Booth, 4 th of July Smoothie Booth) and allocates those proceeds by formula among the Rotary Club Of Cambria (our Club) Avenues of Service and the permanent endowment fund. Some of the income generated by the endowment is also allocated to the Club Avenues of Service. Note that our Club member s annual dues are remitted to Rotary International and our District 5240 for dues, and that our Club member s annual pledges are used for the operating expenses of our Club. Neither your dues nor your pledge go through or to our Foundation. Note also that our Foundation is separate from TRF (The Rotary Foundation), which was established by Rotary International and is involved in worldwide projects such as the eradication of polio. 7 MAKING A DIFFERENCE OPPORTUNITIES Join one of the Avenues of Service: In order to make our club THE BEST ROTARY CLUB IN THE WORLD, every member needs to consider helping in at least one Avenue of Service either by becoming an active committee member or volunteering to help with individual projects: Club Service: focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development plan. International Service: encompasses efforts to expand Rotary s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to Polio Plus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries. Vocational Service: involves Club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process. Community Service: is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community. Youth Service: allows Rotary to directly support our local high school, middle school and grammar school through scholarships, Interact Club support, STEM support, RYLA, Buy a Child a Book and other projects.
