No 22 JACKSON ROTARY INTERACT CLUB VISITS GLIDE MEMORIAL CHURCH The Jackson Rotary Interact Club and the Anti- Bully club of Argonaut HS (20 kids) and 9 chaperones met at Argonaut on Saturday February 20 th to take off to San Francisco. Jim Wilmarth and Ashley Carnicello were the Rotary Club hosts that helped organize this services oriented trip. They stayed at the Travelodge on Lombard St in San Francisco. That night, they all went to the Chinese New Year parade (there are some cool pics on my Ashley s FB page of the parade.) They took a bus to the parade imagine 29 people shoving onto an already crowded public transport in San Francisco. The kids were really excited, it was a new experience for all of them! After the parade the group went out to eat Chinese food in Chinatown. After they went back to the hotel the chaperones went to bed and the kids did a sing off in one of their hotel rooms J They got up at 5:30 a.m. the next morning and set off to Glide Memorial. There, the supervisor James, doled out tasks to each of the kids and even the chaperones. The kids helped with preparing lunch for the next day, preparing the breakfast, handing out silverware/cups, and serving the people that came. In a matter of two hours they helped over 700 people! It was a great time for the kids and Ashley says that she overheard some of them asking James how they can sign up and help in the future. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and went to Fisherman s Wharf and Pier 39 where they had lunch, was able to sight see and then went home. Such a fantastic time in San Francisco with this selfless, modest, admiring, inspiring group of what I'm proud to call friends. Our recent memories that were made; the Chinese New Year Parade Chinese dinner, bus rides, games at the hotel, feeding the homeless, which I was beyond grateful to experience and contribute myself to, Pier 39, and so many others, will always be remembered. This has been one of the greatest events/trips I've attended to by far this year because of all of you and you're compassionate, kind, loving hearts Also a huge thank you to the chaperones that looked out for us kids, we appreciate what all of you did for us and most importantly being there for us Cary Hale-Mounier Interact Member

2 JACKSON ROTARY INTERACT CLUB VISITS GLIDE MEMORIAL CHURCH THIRD GRADE DICTIONARY PROJECT Once again, the Jackson Rotary Club participated in the RI literacy program known as the third grade dictionary project. We adopted the Jackson Elementary school 3rd grade classes. On Wednesday Feb 24th, Ron Floyd and his committee delivered about 60 dictionaries to four different classes beginning with Mrs Clark s class. Dirk W, Keith S and Keith D helped Ron as the kids enthusiastically received their very own dictionary and shared in the excitement as the kids were told that they could take the books home to share with their parents and siblings.

3 CLUB FELLOWSHIP EVENT PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE As you know, Mike is going to San Jose to participate in the annual Presidents Elect Training Seminar (PETS) this weekend. Mike will be learning techniques, protocols and procedures for a successful year as our club s president beginning in July. Mike is already planning on asking each of you for your assistance in making this the best club we can be. Please think about what you can contribute to the club s success. Do you have ideas? 4 AREA 7 FOUNDATION DINNER Deepa Willingham was the key note speaker for the Area 7 Foundation Dinner which was held at Thomi's in Jackson on Friday, February 19th. Deepa, who is a PDG herself, explained why she felt the need to start the PACE school for girls in India. After her presentation, a hat was passed around the room and over $3000 was raised for her school. This money will go a long way helping with supplies and meals for the school. Afterwards, PHF awards were presentment to this year's recipients by Gail "Virus" Ellingwood. Our MC for the evening was ADG Roberta Picket who did a great job keeping things on track PAT CREW FOR SUPERVISOR CAMPAIGN KICK OFF It is rumored that more Rotarians showed up to Pat s campaign kickoff event than would usually show up to a weekly meeting. Question: Does that meet the requirements for a make-up? If you live in district 1, Pat could use your help in a variety of ways. Marv and Sharon Hampton were instrumental in making this event a success, so if you would like to help out, contact them directly as soon as you can.

As the old adage goes: There s no such thing as a free dinner. Come early, grab the GREETER s badge and welcome our fellow members and guests to the meeting. This is an old school Rotary protocol that President Irene is bringing back to encourage fellowship within the membership.
