GENERATION FOUND EPK Synopsis For Interview requests or official comments please contact: Amy McGee Gathr Films From the creators of the groundbreaking addiction film, THE ANONYMOUS PEOPLE, comes a transformative community story about the people of Houston who are fighting to save young people from the leading cause of death of their generation. GENERATION FOUND is a powerful story of young people, families, and their community believing not just in the individual process of recovery but the community s power to fertilize the soil of change. The film captures both the story of families who have lost their children to addiction either by death or imprisonment, as well as families and young people who literally have a second chance at life because of the community seeds of sustainable recovery which have been planted in Houston. The leaders, participants, and volunteers of the recovery institutions will take viewers on an emotional, purposeful, and functional journey from problems to solutions. It is not only a deeply personal story, but one with real world utility for communities struggling with youth addiction worldwide.
Filmmaker Statement It s been over 2 years since you supported the release of our film THE ANONYMOUS PEOPLE. That independent film would have never seen the light of day without your outreach. As a result of your personal passion to carry this Kickstarter backed project to thousands of movie theaters, universities, churches, and inside prison walls we have been able to reach millions with the message of the emerging recovery advocacy movement. The film even largely inspired many to join the historic UNITE to Face Addiction rally last year on the National Mall, when tens of thousands of people collectively ended their silence surrounding the addiction crisis including live performances from Steven Tyler, Joe Walsh, and Sheryl Crow! The momentum is clearly building around solving addiction issues and we wanted you to be the first to know of an exciting new feature film coming out in early release this summer GENERATION FOUND. The number one issue discussed in our post screening conversations around THE ANONYMOUS PEOPLE was how addiction impacts young people, and the needs for youth recovery support. We decided this topic was so important that we began working with an incredible community in Houston, Texas where we had the opportunity to spend the last two years capturing something most have never seen or even heard about! GENERATION FOUND is a transformative community story about the people of Houston who are fighting to save young people from the leading cause of death of their generation. With unprecedented access to a never before seen hidden community, GENERATION FOUND captures both the story of families who have lost their children to addiction, as well as families and young people who have a second chance at life. It is not only a deeply personal story, but one with real world utility for communities struggling with addiction worldwide. We are pumped to be partnering again with Gathr Films to bring this film directly to the grassroots through Theatrical On Demand. No venue rental fees, no licensing, no need to build your own webpage, or design your own poster all audiences will need to be the first to see GENERATION FOUND with their community is to captain their own screening and then share the good news with their network. There will be tons of ways to see this film as the release widens down the road but in order to get it out in a big way we need help in building the buzz and spreading the news early and often. Looking forward to the next adventure, Jeff Reilly & Greg Williams Co Creators of THE ANONYMOUS PEOPLE

YOUTH RECOVERY REVOLUTION National Youth Recovery Alliance ( NYRA ) youthrecoveryrevolution.com inspired the National Youth Recovery Alliance (NYRA). For over forty years, Houston, Texas has been serving youth, young adults, and families through the use of a continuum of care model. Experts in the field agree that these types of wrap around services create a more comprehensive and balance environment for adolescents. Communities, who have shifted from an acute care system to this more holistic approach, are seeing very positive outcomes thanks to the support that young people are receiving at each stage of their early development. In response to the rising tide of requests for youth specific recovery resources the National Youth Recovery Alliance (NYRA) has been created by linking youth recovery organizations together through an online platform. NYRA is an interconnected network of resources that anyone can and should be able to access easily through the web. The landing page links community leaders, young people, families, and professionals directly to each of the national organizations that specialize in a specific niche of the continuum of services model. I am joining the #youthrecoveryrevolution because Social Media campaign
Youth Addiction and Recovery Information What are some key statistics that highlight the addiction crisis? 7.1 million people, were dependent on illicit drugs in the last year Since 2013, drug overdoses have been the leading cause of accidental death in the United States Key statistics regarding young people and addiction? For nine out of ten people, addiction begins in adolescence 45% of adolescents in America have used alcohol, and 35% have used illicit drugs 2.7% of adolescents ages were dependent on alcohol in the last year 3.5% of adolescents age were dependent on illicit drugs in the last year 6.6% of young adults age were dependent on illicit drugs in the last year Only 10% of adolescents ages with illicit drug dependence received treatment in the last year Only 11% of young adults ages with illicit drug dependence received treatment in the last year What is an alternative peer group? An Alternative Peer Group (APG) is a community based, family centered, professionally staffed, positive peer support program that offers prosocial activities, counseling, and case management for people who struggle with substance use or self destructive behaviors. What is a recovery high school? Recovery high schools are secondary schools designed specifically for students in recovery from substance use disorder or dependency. What are the differences between APGs and recovery high schools? APGs provide recovery services outside of school or work hours that include counseling, family support, case management, psychosocial education, community recovery support, and sober social functions for weekdays and weekends. Recovery high schools educate all available and eligible students who are in recovery from substance use disorders or co occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and award secondary school diplomas that meet state requirements.
What are the differences between traditional high schools and recovery high schools? Much like traditional high schools, recovery high schools often include administrative staff, teachers, and counselors that each play a critical role in supporting their students. Additionally, recovery schools support students in working a strong program of recovery from substance use disorders or co occurring issues and offer support for families learning to how to live with, and provide support for, their teens entering into the recovery lifestyle. Recovery high schools may employ substance abuse counselors or mental health professionals that play a critical role in supporting recovering youth. What are the takeaway lessons from how Houston's handled the youth addiction crisis in their community and transformed it into a culture of youth and recovery? Houston has a long history of supporting youth in recovery through Alternative Peer Groups beginning with Palmer Drug Abuse Program established in The power of youth recovery groups to make sobriety more fun than using grew within the community as APGs expanded and flourished. With five APGs offering satellite locations throughout the Houston and surrounding areas by 2002, the stage was set to sustain two recovery high schools that opened their doors in Students who attend these two recovery high schools are required to maintain enrollment in a local APG. This requirement has proven to be the key to sustaining an integrated recovery system for Houston s recovering youth. Students recovery, as well as their families, is supported during the day at school and reinforced in the evenings and weekends in their APGs.
