1 HASLAND AND ST. LEONARD'S COMMUNITY FORUM ANNUAL REPORT 2009/10 Presented by COUNCILLOR BRIDGET DUNKS CHAIR OF HASLAND AND ST. LEONARD'S COMMUNITY FORUM
2 As Chair of the Forum, it falls upon me to present the Annual Report for 2009/10. The Forum continues to provide a valuable opportunity for residents to air their views and gives the opportunity for the Borough Council and all partner agencies to consult on issues affecting not only the Forum area, but the Borough as a whole. Meetings continue to be well attended and are well supported by our partner organisations, Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Constabulary. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the co-opted members and members of the public for their continued contribution as their knowledge of the local environment and the issues that are important to residents is so important to the success of the Forum. I would also like to thank all Ward Members and officers for their valued contribution once again. Councillor Bridget Dunks Chair of Hasland and St. Leonard s Community Forum
3 Forum meetings are held at varying venues within the Forum area and any suggestions for new venues are welcome. Co-opted Members and residents have been able to use Forum meetings to report matters of concern and receive responses on these. Ward Members are available both before and after meetings to discuss further any issues of particular interest to attendees. The Forum continues to receive regular updates from the Friends of Eastwood Park on the Group s activities, including funding applications made for improvements to the Park and events taking place in the Park. This includes the annual Gala Day which is held in June which becomes more and more popular each year. The Friends of Spital Cemetery also continue to provide updates on works to improve the Cemetery and progress on its investigations into the possible improvements to the Church. The Planning Sub-Group meets regularly to consider applications that are received and make representations on behalf of the Forum to the Council s Planning Services. During the year, numerous issues have been raised including:- Highways/Traffic Issues/Grit Bin Provision Community Safety Issues, particularly anti-social behaviour in the Forum area Grass/hedge cutting Requests for Grit Bins Progress on completion of works in the vicinity of the skate park Litter Request for Dog Bin Gulley cleaning in the Forum area The Forum has also received many interesting presentations including: Chesterfield Borough Local Development Framework Draft Queen s Park Conservation Area Character Appraisal Completion of the New Fire Station Removal of Bring site - Calow Lane The Avenue Project - clean up of the former Avenue Coking Works
4 Digital Activist Inclusion Network Update on Chesterfield Townscape Heritage Initiative Forum funding has been provided for the provision of Christmas lights in Hasland Village and representatives of the Forum took part in a Christmas event which was held in the Village Hall in November, in partnership with the Friends of Eastwood Park and the Police, which was very successful. The Forum have also funded: Filling and maintenance of grit bins in the Forum area Replacement of path - Ashfield Road Allotment Society Floral displays in Hasland village Hasland Baby and Toddler Pop In Group The Forum continues to work effectively and closely with the Police. A Police representative attends each meeting of the Forum and answers questions, addresses concerns and updates members on any progress with issues they have raised. The Forum are also informed of any police initiatives being undertaken to help combat particular types of crime in the area. The Police have sought to align the local Police priorities with the priorities raised by residents attending the Forum, which reduces the fear of crime. A County Council Officer attends each meeting of the Forum to deal with County Council matters. A report responding to Highways issues raised is submitted to each meeting.
