1 Vol 4 No 5 June 2012 Education for the Future Towards Excellence in Action! Trinity is known for its culture of excellence that fosters academic achievement and good conduct. The College does its utmost to ensure the betterment of its students. It provides a safe and stimulating holistic environment to motivate and engage them fully. It instills positive discipline, right qualities, and strong character for unstoppable success... The College expects high academic achievement from its students. It provides a rich and rigorous curriculum and powerful pedagogy. It supports, counsels, and challenges them to do their very best. Thus, Trinitians always get excellent results in their +2s or A Levels as they continue to do better and better year after year. Thereafter, they almost always bag competitive placements and scholarships here or abroad. Today, Trinity alumni are doing remarkably well all over the world. And this is what gives us great satisfaction and joy! In addition to invaluable academic inputs, the institution offers an impressive array of extracurricular and co-curricular activities for the overall development of its students. They have opportunities to take part, and excel, in diverse beneficial activities. These comprise sports, social service, SciTech, art & literature, organizing events, outings, and other club activities. Trinity students have fine accomplishments to their credit. All this has had a life-changing impact on students and their personalities. Now in its fifth year, Trinity is a leading academic institution in Nepal for higher education. 2 2 SciTech Grappling with Scientific Thought Towards Discovery Trinity seriously motivates its students to use their curiosity and creativity to grapple with real sci-tech issues. Issues like innovation, discovery, information, resources, environment, energy, and health are real problems that only science and technology can authentically address. Our students can get to realize the importance of using scientific principles innovatively or discover new fundamental knowledge by scientific inquiry. Further, they are encouraged to use the latest digital and networking technologies to enhance the communication of information. Fostering Innovation The first Trinity Inter-College SciTech Exhibition-cum-Competition was held on January 30, 2012 (Magh 16, 2068). Inaugurated by the Minister for Science and Technology, the one-day event drew a large crowd! The theme was Science & Technology for Tackling Challenges in Our Life incorporating issues related to green energy, transport & communication, community health & environment, or innovative technology. Over a dozen reputed colleges of Kathmandu participated. Prize-winning exhibits included one on Robotics and another on generating electricity through shoes. The Dean of the Institute of distributed the awards. The fair proved to be a fine experience for the participants, students, and visitors at large. Learning Science Our productive journey through the fascinating and enriching realm of science & technology started the day we founded our College in 2008 and it has continued ever since. We are committed to continuing this exciting exploration by encouraging discovery and fostering invention among students. We believe in putting theory into practice. Trinity Inter-College SciTech Exhibition-cum-Competition 2012 Trinity offers many opportunities to its students to take part in SciTech festivals, expos, and exhibitions each year. This has oftener than not brought in prizes and commendation to participating Trinitians - individuals or teams. We support our students with the potential for excellence in science to invent the future through SciTech-oriented careers. 3 3 Management Exploring Possibilities Managerial Willpower Trinity thinks that harnessing willpower the greatest human strength is where management often starts! Willpower is the faculty of choice. A rational appetite, it conditions preferential control and affects decision-making. Is managerial self-control an inherent personality trait or something that can be cultivated? We firmly hold that you can gradually improve your willpower by exercising it regularly like training for a marathon! Armed with willpower, you can manage your tougher decisions and interactions. Evidently, students, or others, who wish to manage things, people, or events should have the ability to control their emotions, be patient, think clearly, and remain focused regardless of the confusion around them. This is why strong willpower becomes necessary. Creating Moments One of the first of its kind ever held in the Valley, the Trinity Intra-College Management Expo was organized on January 30, 2012 (Magh 16, 2068). The purpose of this Expo was to make our management students realize the concrete possibilities of expressing their managerial thinking in actual projects. These projects were basically related to their studies and the possibilities of managing progress in Nepal. Trinity students confidently exhibited carefully constructed projects and did all the explaining of the processes involved in a most eloquent and convincing manner. Prizewinning projects covered a variety of themes such as Banking, Cooperatives, or Development. Developing Insight The College believes in giving its management students ample field exposure and relevant interaction. It provides experimental choices over the academic year to hone their skills. Some useful field trips helped students to learn about management in practice. Hotel Management Tours were conducted and the participants seemed to have really benefitted from the work-studies. We also promote field visits and encourage students to take part in competitions. Another critical survey of the Kalimati Vegetable and Fruit Wholesale Market during an extended visit gave Trinitians first-hand information about market realities and their management. It exposed them to the complex interplay of varied arrangements, market forces, and unattended problems. 5 5 Art & Design on Show Art & Literature Short Story My... father! Extract: I was a happy fellow. I was active. My attitude was positive. My feelings were normal. I would laugh at the comic and cry at the tragic. I was normal a human being. Till yesterday, I had great enthusiasm for writing... [I felt] as if my muse had deserted me... I can vividly remember that day when my father had asked me curiously, What is your ambition, my son? A writer, I had answered confidently. My father was not happy with my answer then. Nevertheless, he had smiled and patted on my back trying to encourage me. That's great! 18 18 Your Educational Opportunities Keeping an eye on future prospects You and Your College Getting Started Start wide, expand further, and never look back. Those of you waiting for your SLC results would be hoping for the best. You'd also be making future plans with great expectations! You must decide soon which subjects or stream to study in Grade XI or A Levels. You ought to choose a stream that really interests you. Selecting Your College Where to Study Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm. There is no problem unless we choose to make it one, so think carefully before you act. There are hundreds of colleges to choose from so keep in mind a few things like: Results: Know that a good college is only as good as its results go! Affordability: Be sure how much you'd have to pay and the value you'd get out of it. Scholarships: Ask if they have wide-ranging scholarships including in-course ones. Faculty: Find out if their teachers and tutors are really qualified and dedicated. Regular Assessment: Check if they provide assessment, homework, exam preparation, and feedback. Counseling: Do they offer personal and educational counseling of a high order to ensure the holistic development of students? Academic Options After +2 and A Levels Deciding upon which college you'd eventually like to join may be more stressful than choosing subject combinations. Choosing a college is a once in a lifetime decision, a crucial decision about a complex matter that you will have to make in the next few weeks. Parental Involvement: Are parents invited to teacher-parent meetings, given timely feedback, or required to supervise? Accessibility: Insist upon an easily accessible campus with modern classrooms & quiet study areas. Excellent students: Never forget that students of a good college are smart and self-disciplined achievers! Discipline: Does the institution emphasize positive discipline essential for ensuring academic and personal success? Inspiring Environment: Do you like its academic environment & infrastructure and feel they'll be conducive to your development? Services & Facilities: Ensure if they offer secure transport, hygienic food, comfortable accommodation, and library or digital resources. Extracurricular Activities: Be aware that meaningful, challenging activities foster creativity and encourage accomplishment. Reputation: Does your own impression of the college match the public acclaim or popularity it enjoys? Career Planning The Difficulty of Choosing Careers Parental Expectations Wanting you to embark upon a specific career of their choice Agreeing to their career suggestions that do not interest you Taking up such a career may create frustration and job dissatisfaction that will not let you realize your full potential. Peer Pressure Persuading or coercing you to choose careers your friends like Willing to be led by decisions made by your peers Basing your career decision on your friends' decisions might not work out for you as your beliefs, interests, and abilities could be different. Asking Questions Begin with the end in mind. Isn't +2 or A Level education a gateway to vast educational opportunities? Yes! But it can be quite tricky even if you have a good academic record in Grades XI and XII or AS and A2 Levels. You are likely to be troubled by a myriad of questions... What matters is that you ask yourself the right questions and get the right answers as you start your planning, and preparation, from now! Getting Prepared Prepare the umbrella before it rains! Don't forget that you'd be competing with thousands of other bright young boys and girls. Entrance-cum-scholarship exams, especially for medical or engineering colleges, are indeed highly competitive. Motivation and hard work are what you need from the very beginning for guaranteeing success. Acquire skills relating to time management, goal setting, learning techniques, library & computing, and writing & studying. Start your preparation early to get a head start. Overestimating Your Abilities Not having the required skills, aptitude, and qualifications for success in the chosen career Being too optimistic or overvisualizing about possible opportunities, especially abroad Embarking on a career that appeals to you without evaluating your skills and abilities may lead to failure. Study Options The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live... There are literally hundreds of courses available to you in more than a thousand colleges under five universities in Nepal itself! Or you could choose to study abroad though the choice of courses and institutions is staggering. If you so decide, we'd highly recommend that you apply for scholarships along with your admission application as tuition fees and living expenses are pretty high. Remember, scholarships are highly competitive. The application process is often lengthy and warrants meticulous preparation. Career assessment activities are greatly facilitated through a career advisor or counselor even though seeking a career is often a self-directed search based on an individual student's personal, educational, and career construct. Career advisors or counselors in the college you would be joining will take all this into consideration while assisting you to narrow down your options to the best possible careers. First Trinity Career Counseling Symposium January 9, 2012, Nepal Academy To prepare students for their future studies, selecting colleges or courses, choosing careers, and deciding on their life goals Senior academicians from engineering, medicine, and management and representatives from the British Council, Campus France, and USEF address students.

23 23 Graduates' Views The right place at the right time! I'm glad I chose Trinity it has given me the two most fruitful years of my life! Studies at the College increased my academic performance. I got to learn much, upgraded my knowledge, and made myself better scholastically. Trinity proved invaluable in other aspects of my life too... It provided various opportunities that helped develop my personality. My teachers always encouraged me to do better, made me realize my talent and qualities, and use them in the right place at the right time! It was Trinity that revealed the real me. - Alisha Thapaliya Personality, Performance & Perspective Being at Trinity has been a most worthwhile experience for more reasons than I can recount. Environment: Strict in a praiseworthy sense! Teachers: Admirable. Studies: Very focused on education never forces students to study... it motivates them instead. And Personality-wise: Made me punctual and responsible. My behavior changed for the better. Performance-wise: Very good grades in the HSEB Exams - NOT just in my case. Perspective-wise: Improved my attitude and views towards life, its problems, and studies in general. Mere two years as a Trinitian wasn't enough: They went like a flash! But left deep satisfaction behind. - Anisha Karmacharya It's like being in a family! Trinity is like a second family to me. It gave me the support I really needed to continue my education. Teachers and staff members helped me in every hour of my life as a Trinitian. Education system and discipline management are Trinity's key points. The teaching methodology is fabulous. Because of these things, Trinity is renowned as one of the top colleges of Nepal. Trinity furthered my educational career and personal ambition. Today, I'm confident of becoming a successful engineer and someone who can lead his country towards sustainable development. - Asim Chaulagain Encouragement with Challenges Isn't Trinity a temple of knowledge? Gaining knowledge was what I've always wanted... I am more than happy for what I got in my + 2. The encouragement that teachers gave - with challenges thrown in - was what a student requires to improve quickly and perform marvelously. Distinguished faculty members and low educational costs are the strong points of this college. Further, scholarships, regular class tests, and medical or engineering prep-classes are additional benefits. Trinity's friendly environment, its cooperative teachers and staff members, sports, and career counseling were really helpful in my overall progress. - Naman Nepal Peace for Perfection A peaceful environment with a well-equipped infrastructure and fantastic friends proved to be a joyous experience! Good management = Trinity International College you start learning the chapters you initially hated, text you'd never take a peek at, and you end up becoming capable of tackling complex problems with incredible ease. How so? It has an experienced teaching faculty that can make you understand any kind of stuff and get interested in learning more about it even if it appears boring at first. It imparts much: Reading habits, critical thinking, and psychological counseling leading to self-confidence to compete with others in this competitive scientific era. - Niraj Malla In Safe Hands For me, Trinity College has been an excellent choice. enjoyed the academic challenge. This is an ideal place to imbibe social and moral knowledge and to learn logic and problem solving. I felt that I was in very safe hands while I was studying at Trinity because the quality of what I was being taught was very good. What we learn here builds a bridge between +2 and university education. I was all the more satisfied because I got into my dream university. I've always loved charitable work. This is an area where Trinity's clubs played an invaluable role in my life. - Rojina Ghising Knowledge + Wisdom Interested in studying in a well-equipped classroom full of accomplished and competitive students, I left home and chose Trinity to shape my education and career. of the wisest decisions of my life: Trinity is near to perfection not only in academics but also in ECA. Moreover, the College is quite remarkable for its norms, values, and discipline. The environment of the College and its proper facilities for learning helped me learn much. Enthusiastic teachers constantly motivated us and never let our confidence abate. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call Trinity a perfect garden of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Excellence. - Arun Kumar Baral Growth - Opportunities - Fairness The best thing about Trinity is that it treats every student equally. All the students are given equal opportunities, in fact, lots of them, to showcase their talents. And this leads to a fuller development of each and every Trinitian. Personally, I am fully satisfied with my performance and accomplishments at the College as I got all the help or advice required. My career as a singer grew alongside my studies because of their correct guidance and encouragement. Besides, Trinity has the facilities and services necessary to support talented students. Above all, I enriched my personality because of what I learned at Trinity. - Rajina Rimal Towards Triumph It has been a tremendous pleasure for me to be at Trinity and become a Trinitian. Trinity classrooms supported my education and career goals. It helped me to build my skills. Moreover, the College authorities helped to build my moral courage and self-esteem. All these vital inputs enhanced my capabilities to triumph in life. Now when I look back, I see all those fine teachers and assistants who worked so hard to help me to understand those physics and chemistry problems. Also, the classes generally and interaction between teachers and students was fantastic. - Bidhan Thapa Promises Kept! Trinity delivers what it promises! There were fine students with whom my knowledge improved and programmes which helped to develop me. Trinity believes in the academic freedom to explore knowledge. Truthfully, I have heard some colleges do not fulfill their promises, particularly about awarding scholarships. Many students have faced such letdowns. But, I can proudly say that Trinity fulfills what it says! The fee structures are most reasonable and scholarships are given as per in-course exam performance. I want to thank all the teachers and administrative staff members who have helped me in these two years for everything I have gained in the College. - Nishant Bhatta Where Dreams Become Realities Frankly, I had no idea what I could do until Trinity guided me and ultimately received the prestigious scholarship award by the Indian Embassy for. I was lucky enough to choose Trinity International College as my educator. The spirit of Trinity manifests itself in its positive approach and perfect planning. Trinity taps the potential of its students. It enhances the critical abilities of its students. It tells us that teamwork too is a meaningful component of life. We become an achiever every day here! Studying in Trinity is where dreams become realities! It builds our foundation for life itself... -Bikash Dhungana
