1 NRNA Canada Update # 5 March-April 2016 Dear fellow community members, This update highlights NRNA-Canada activities during March-April Belated Happy Nepali New 2073 to all of you for good health, peace and prosperity! Your continued support and encouragement will be highly appreciated. Sincerely, NRNA-Canada NCC Interaction with Nepalese Entrepreneurs and New website Launch NRNA-Canada organized an Interaction with Nepali Entrepreneurs in Mississauga, on Sunday, March 13, Its newly designed website was launched at the event. Nepalese business community members and the representatives of Nepalese organizations, NRNA Canada members, and media professionals actively participated showing solidarity with NRNA Canada. Recommendations from the event include: creating Nepalese business database, organizing business networking events, running business related workshops, finding ways of encouraging Nepalese to become entrepreneurs, creating emergency business fund, providing space for descriptive ad on the NRN website and other Platform, nominating representatives to NRNA-Canada from business sector, etc. The new Website has been launched and is now up and running as a platform to share ideas, gather information, promote businesses, network among Nepali Diaspora and others. The site was designed and updated by Mr. Laxman Paudel, a Mississauga resident on a volunteer basis. NRNA Canada would like to appreciate with many many thanks for his selfless contribution to the community. Big thanks also go to the previous web-masters- Mr. Suran Shrestha (Mabi), Mr. Rajesh Shrestha, Mr. Surendra Dhakal and Mr. Vishal Burathoki for their invaluable contribution. International Women s Day 2016 Celebration International Women s Day 2016 was celebrated by the Women and Children Affairs Committee as a new initiative. A 15- member Women and Children Affair Committee led by Mrs was announced. Joint s: Gita Dawadi and 1

Congratulations to the newly announced team. Nepali Women s Health Support Fund has been established on the very day. Some participants donated cash and pledged support, which helped raise $1188, will be deposited in a separate account of NRNA Canada. We take the opportunity to thank all for your generous contribution. NRNA-Canada would like to appeal all the community members for your solidarity and support to this noble endeavour. Thanks are also due to Gorkha Palace and Thakali Kitchen for providing venue. Language, Literature and Publication Committee A Language Literature and Publication (LLP) Committee has been formed with 23 members including coordinator Mr., vice-president, NRNA Canada. The LLP committee had conducted a first (Meeting) via conference call. This committee has started working on Nepali curriculum and going to finalize it soon. Calendar Publication and Distribution The Language, Literature and Publication Committee has published Nepali Calendar BS 2073 and distributed across Canada. We would like to thank all who contributed in various ways. Special thanks go to Mr. DR Khanal Brampton for assisting to print; Santosh Baral Ottawa for designing; NB Tandan, and truckers association for distribution of calendars. Thanks to Mr. Naba Raj Gurung, Mr., Mr. Hemanta Mainali and Mr.Surya Bhattarai for financial support and encouragement. 3

4 Regional Meeting in Alberta A meeting of Alberta region was held in Calgary on March 26, We thank all the participants for your attendance. Participation in Community Events NCCS AGM Nepalese Canadian Community Services (NCCS) organized its AGM on March 26, Honorary Consular General Dr. Kunjar Mani Sharma delivered the speech as chief guest of the program. of NRNA Canada Mr. and chairman of NCHC Dr. Hari Gurung were guest speakers. Mr. and Dr. Kismat Bhandary were also present in the program. The AGM formed new BOD led by Chairman Dr. Tulsi Dharel and Mr.. NRNA-Canada congratulates the BOD led by Dr Dharel and Mr Bhandari and wishes the entire BOD a successful tenure. The full list of BOD can be viewed at: CNCA AGM in Calgary: Calgary Nepalese Community Association (CNCA) organized its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, April 9, New Board of Directors led by Mr. Dibya Pradhan has been elected. NRNA-Canada congratulates Mr Pradhan and his team and wishes them a successful tenure. For detail please visit: Nepali New Year 2073 Celebration New Year 2073 was celebrated all over Canada by Nepalese associations. NRNA- Canada Executives and BOD attended those events. NJAC (Nepalese Janajati Association Canada) organized a grand New Year celebration party in Mississauga, where NRNA-Canada Dr. Kismat Bhandary extended greetings and best wishes to the fellow compatriots. 4

5 Similarly, NCCS Toronto, CNCA Calgary, ANQ Montreal, Guelph Nepalese community organized new year s celebrations in the cities/regions where they are based. Joint Meeting of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Representatives of Laprak Village and NRNA This joint meeting was held at the NRNA Secretariat in Kathmandu on Friday, April 1, was among the representatives of NRNA who attended. A joint field visit to Laprak village took place following that meeting, which finally led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to construct of permanent houses for the earthquake affected people in Laprak, Gorkha.
