2 United Way of the Ozarks Board of Directors Meeting June 14, 2017, 4:00pm, KY3 Community Room Minutes DRAFT The monthly Board of Directors meeting of United Way of the Ozarks was held at 4:00 pm at KY3, 999 W. Sunshine, Springfield, MO. Attendance for the meeting was as follows: Board members attending: Roseann Bentley, Eric Bilyeu, Bob Cirtin, Brad Crain, Steve Fox, Virginia Fry, Michael Gott, Jay Guffey, Kelly Hall, Bob Hammerschmidt, Frederick James, Steve Kleinsmith, Brian McDonough, Brenda Putman Board members absent: (*indicates admin notified) Donna Christian, Doug Clay, David Cook, Janet Dankert*, Matt Gifford, Bill Hennessey, Leo Henning, Hal Higdon, John Jungmann*, Mark McNay*, David Raney, Bob Roberts, Tim Stack*, Stephanie Weis* Staff members present: Debi Meeds, Sheri Lupton, Jill Finney, Shellie Jones, Colleen Neill, Stephanie Pape, Cindy Mergen I. Call to Order Brad Crain, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:04 pm. There were 14 members present, meeting a quorum of 10. II. Consent Agenda Brad Crain read that the following items were included in the consent agenda, as posted in the United Way of the Ozarks online Board Portal on June 12, 2017: May 17, 2017 Meeting Minutes April 2017 Financials 2016 Draft Audit Report Review Budget 2017 United Way Worldwide Membership Certification Action: Bob Hammerschmidt made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Jay Guffey seconded the motion and all present Board members voted and approved. Motion carried. III. Community Impact Debi Meeds, CEO/President, made the following report on behalf of Stephanie Weis, Community Investment Chair: Allocation letters and contracts were sent to all United Way of the Ozarks partner agencies. United Way of the Ozarks was unable to increase allocations, but no allocations decreased. IV. Community Strengthening / Increasing Capacity Steve Fox, Campaign Chair, made the following report: UWO Mission: Improving lives in the Ozarks by uniting community support. UWO Values: Impact, Leadership, Accountability, Collaboration, Integrity, Compassion Helping People, Changing Communities

3 Steve encouraged all board members to be the team captain for their individual workplaces campaigns. The campaign goal this year is $3 million. New materials and packets will be coming out soon. The board held a discussion on collateral materials, specifically the new UWO brochure. Board members were provided a proof of the new brochure to be printed and gave their opinions on design and information to be included. V. Adjournment With no further discussion, Brad Crain adjourned the meeting at 4:29 pm. Minutes submitted by Cindy Mergen, Director of Administration for United Way of the Ozarks. EVALUATE What difference will it make? 50% focused on EDUCATIONAL RED FLAGS Removing barriers to learning, including health and hunger Providing reading tutors, mentors, and positive adult role models Providing safe, supportive before and after school programs Helping every child graduate from high school and succeed in life 11,517 children received one-to-one reading help, mentoring, out of school care = improved school work and reading scores 17,083 children received services to stay in school (food, medication, dental care, transportation, doctor s visits, etc.) = improved attendance 260 High School students at risk received help = 100% remained in school or graduated 10% focused on HEALTH RED FLAGS Assuring access to developmental/behavioral therapy for children Providing free mental health and counseling services Providing resources and case management for crisis pregnancy 1,083 pre-school children with developmental disabilities received home-therapy visits = 30% met developmental goals and did not require Special Ed saving taxpayers $18,000 per year, per student 279 at-risk pregnant women received prenatal and delivery care = 100% live births 10,884 individuals received mental health/counseling services = 100% had improved social function 40% focused on POVERTY RED FLAGS Supporting families to move from crisis to stability Providing safe shelter and services for victims of crime, abuse and disaster Providing emergency food, financial assistance, safe shelter Providing Coordinated Case management 1,502 children and 2,742 adult victims of crime, abuse and/or violence = kept safe and received support 455 families received case management = moved from crisis to stability 586 homeless children received services = 100% moved to permanent housing and 0% returned to foster care 449 veterans received emergency assistance and case management = 100% moved from crisis to stability. United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.
