1 NYPD Guardians Association Monthly E-Newsletter May 2016 President s Message Greetings brothers and sisters. During the month of May our organization participated in various events. We volunteered with the New York Road Runners at the Brooklyn Half marathon where a couple of our members were spotted running. We also participated in the annual Lupus Walk. I would like to congratulate 1st Vice President Felicia Richards on receiving the Community Service & Leadership Award from the National Council of Negro Women. Finally, a big congratulations to our very own Samantha Coffield on receiving her Master of Science in Criminal Justice with an outstanding 3.92 gpa. Continue to inspire others through your hard work and dedication. In June we will be hosting our Diapers for Daddy Event. We are looking forward to acknowledging the challenges and hard work of fatherhood by providing some much needed items and services. In order to maintain this steady growth and continued success we need your help. We are currently 08/01 - Guardians 4 day Carnival Cruise looking for precinct delegates. The job of the delegate is to disseminate information on the precinct level, as well as relay any issues to the board. Active delegates are integral in keeping the lines of communication open between the executive board and the precincts. 2 SPOTLIGHT Police Officer Shurland Marshall, Police Academy Police Officer Shurland Marshall joined the NYPD in July She has worked in the 75th and 7th Precincts. Currently she is assigned to the Police Academy teaching social science to recruits. Shurland holds a Masters Degree in General and Special Education from Touro College. Shurland joined the NYPD with a desire to help children and young adults. She hopes to one day be a supervisor in the Special Victims Unit. As for now she enjoys teaching new recruits and sharing her experiences. Shurland believes that Everything that you are going through is preparing you for what you asked for. Shurland is active in the Guardians. She serves on both the fundraising and Media & Marketing committees.
