1 Brevard Public Schools Support Services Update Mental Health Continuum February 12, 2019

2 A risk factor is something that helps to create problems. Mental health problems are complex issues and are never the result of one risk factor Bullying Abuse/Neglect Family history of mental illness Poor academic Perception of achievement being beyond Conflicting repair Stress Living in Poor poverty nutrition thoughts surrounding deep religious beliefs Trauma Use of alcohol/drugs Discrimination 2

12 Where we are PBIS 40 schools are actively implementing CHAMPS 8 schools have participated in train-thetrainer model; added to New Teacher Academy and Alternative Certification teachers Restorative Practices: 7 schools are trained; 2 more will be added this summer Youth Mental Health First Aid: BPS has trained 945 employees. Current focus Threat Assessment Teams Acts on Facts 7 Suicide Prevention Certified Schools 12

13 Where we are cont.: Sources of Strength: 8 secondary schools trained; 3 more scheduled Panorama 7 schools have been trained in Panorama; 7 more will be added next year Social Workers: An additional 20 social workers added SEL Curricula: 64 schools were allocated funds to adopt and implement SEL Mental Health Agency Partnerships: 7 providers handled 840 mental health referrals to date; MOU with PAFB 13
