23 3 Service Evaluation at Kids Help Phone In 2012, Kids Help Phone, with support from the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health conducted one of the first comprehensive evaluations of a helpline in the world. 98% That evaluation demonstrated the efficacy of our Live Chat and Phone services would call again Those evaluation results have been shared with helplines, mental health providers and subject matter experts around the world In 2014, we conducted a 2 nd evaluation 23
24 Evaluation Results Kids Help Phone COUNSELLING WORKS! Research proves that Kids Help Phone counselling is highly effective. It leads to statistically significant changes in the following crucial clinical indicators: 85% of phone clients experience a reduction in distress 75% 73% 69% of clients experience an increase in confidence in their abilities to overcome their challenges. of phone clients and 64% of Live Chat clients become more hopeful that their problem can change for the better of clients see their problem more clearly 24
25 Evaluation Results SATISFYING Young Clients Research shows that Kids Help Phone clients are overwhelmingly satisfied with their counselling experience. 98% 94% of phone clients say they would call Kids Help Phone again if they need help of Live Chat clients say they would recommend Kids Help Phone to a friend Here are some of their comments: The person who helped me was amazing and extremely helpful. I really feel a lot better about my situation. Kids Help Phone has saved my life multiple times. 25
26 Evaluation Results Kids Help Phone Clients are Diverse With a high percentage of LGBTQ+, immigrant, 1 st generation and Black African or Caribbean clients, it is clear that Kids Help Phone helps some of the most potentially vulnerable young people in Canada. Sexual Orientation Generational Status 36% 46% of Live Chat clients self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, questioning, 2-spirited, or asexual (LGBQQ2SA); 20% of phone clients Of callers self-identify as immigrants or 1 st generation Canadians Racial-ethniccultural Background 8% 6% Of callers are Black African or Caribbean almost three times their representation in Canada s population (3%) Of callers are South East Asian, more than twice their representation in the population (2.5%) 26

37 5 Other Initiatives Excellence through Accreditation and Membership Kids Help Phone is proud to be among a select number of organizations who have received accreditation from Imagine Canada for complying with various standards of practice in the charitable sector including financial accountability and transparency. For donors, this accreditation is an assurance of our integrity and accountability. Kids Help Phone is a member of Child Helpline International (CHI), a global network of telephone helpline and outreach services for children and young people. As a member of CHI, Kids Help Phone is often approached by CHI and CHI member helplines to share its expertise in youth counselling. 37
38 4 Our Funding Reality Kids Help Phone is a charity. We deliver core services to kids and teens aged 5-20 across Canada. As a charity, we secure donations to operate Kids Help Phone from individuals, foundations, corporations, and community fundraising events like Walk so Kids Can Talk. Government funding currently is received only through projectspecific grants and agreements, and makes up between 10 and 15% of total funds associated with core service delivery. 38
