Yes I m a couple of weeks early but with the cold weather moving into the area this week it is getting harder to deny that the Holidays are only a couple of weeks away. And that means time for the Annual Baltimore Chapter Holiday Party. And becuase it was so well received last year we are once again heading to Mustang Alley in Baltimore City. As always this event will be free but space is limited. Please RSVP to Brian Crisp (see contact information on the right => ) I would also like to take this time to remind everybody that it is that time of year to start winterizing yur houses by dis connecting the garden hoses and turning of the interior valves t the hose bibbs. 2 President s Article (Continued from page 1) Membership Report Membership Report The Chapter continues to offer certificates for attending the monthly meetings. To receive a certificate you will need to sign in to the CEU/PDH attendance form at the end of the meeting and check that you would like to receive a certificate. The certificate will be ed to you as a PDF for your use. Right Photo: Benjamin Ploskon accepting the Chapter Merit Award. Membership Dues Hardship Waiver Society offers a hardship waiver for members who have lost their jobs. Go to for more details on applying for this benefit. You may not think this helps, but it allows a member to stay active and take advantage of ASPE programs, both local and national. Membership Report Andrew Cahill - Vice President - Membership The lack of a report would indicate that the Baltimore chapter did not gain or lose any members in the month of October. While this always bodes well for retention numbers, it unfortunately continues the trend of limited growth. We are always open to thoughts from within the chapter on how we can improve our appeal to the engineering community as it relates to meeting attendance and membership. I can always be reached via acahill@tazeandhewitt.com with your suggestions, or any questions you may have about becoming a member of our local ASPE chapter. I do believe my schedule may actually allow me to attend the November meeting, so I ll keep my fingers crossed and luck forward to seeing you all then. There are still some prime places left. We would love you to support your industry and sign up. This will be the last meeting for awhile here at Bowman Restaurant. In December we will be doing our Holiday bowling again at Mustang Alley. We are looking for some possible bar sponsors for our Christmas meeting (PS EVERYONE loves the bar sponsors!!!) In the month of January we will be trying out a new location to hold our meetings. More info to come later. We finished the year in the black and are continuing to be a very viable chapter. 4 Scholarship Report Jason Eagles Scholarship Chair We established our Scholarship program just over 5 years ago. I am pleased to announce that with the help of the members, rep organizations, MEMRA, and CCBC we have reached our goal of a self-sustaining endowed scholarship fund. We have raised sufficient funds to give multiple scholarships a year indefinitely. I know this was the vision of John Jung when we established this scholarship program. On a personal note, developing and facilitating this scholarship has been one of the more gratifying experiences of my career. Please remember that your support of this chapter is what allows us to give back to our local community and support those students who dream of one day being an engineer. If you are not a member, please consider joining so we can continue to develop programs such as this. We awarded (2) $1,000 scholarships this semester to Jennifer Betley and Austin Hogue. Jennifer has been awarded our scholarship multiple times. She has continued to excel academically; earning all A s again last semester. She is currently taking her final courses to receive her Associates degree. She will be transferring to UMBC next semester. Jennifer is currently researching prospective internship possibilities. If your organization is currently offering an internship opportunity, please contact me directly. Austin is a first time recipient of our scholarship. He has a perfect 4.0 GPA and is highly regarded by teachers as being extremely bright and hard working. He hopes to transfer to UMCP in the near future. Both have shown tremendous gratitude to our chapter and look forward to one day being among our ranks ASPE - Baltimore Chapter Newsletter November 2014

Ten (10) newsletters will be published and issued to the Chapter membership and associated industry firms in the Baltimore area each ASPE calendar year (September through June). If interested in advertising in the newsletter, please contact the newsletter editor, Bob Radford, by telephone at (410) or via at bob.radford@viega.us Monthly Sponsorship Opportunities The Baltimore Chapter of ASPE continues to have successful meetings and is looking to continue improving throughout the year. The strong foundation that begins in September is the springboard for an even better year than last year. Last year the Chapter initiated the following sponsorship opportunities that were well received: Meeting Sponsorships: $ to sponsor an open bar for the happy hour period of a monthly meeting. This includes announcement in the newsletter, multiple notices of the meeting and signs at the monthly meeting sponsored. Two (2) sponsorships available per meeting. Tabletop Presentations: Two (2) opportunities per meeting to provide a tabletop presentation of equipment or material relative to the plumbing profession. The tabletops will be set up from the beginning to the end of the monthly meeting. The cost is two (2) $50 gift cards to be raffled to attendees. The cost includes announcements in the multiple announcements of the monthly meeting and at the meeting itself. There are two gift card raffles: one for engineer members only (at no charge to the engineer) and one for all attendees at a cost of $1 per chance and 6 chances for $5.00. Our very first Officers were as follows: President William Hammett First Vice President Richard Hartlove Second Vice President Kurt Jonsson Third Vice President John Justice Treasurer Nick DiGiacomantonia Corresponding Secretary Edward Dwyer During the next nine months, the interim Board obtained the minimum twenty (20) members to establish a chapter. In August of 1974, the Board submitted a petition for charter to the National Board of Directors of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.
