7 The audit indicates that our response to domes;c abuse has a number of characteris;cs: It has an overemphasis on singular incidents of physical violence, rather than recogni;on of a wider pa^ern of abuse; it assumes separa;on or removal of the perpetrator will automa;cally reduce risk; it places responsibility for care of the children and for ending the abuse primarily with the vic;m, whilst superficially engaging with perpetrators; it explicitly encourages separa;on, without addressing risks around safe contact or ongoing disrup;on to family life.
