1 November 8, 2016 Vol 3. No 13 The process for presenting the next chapter in the Rotary Club of Jackson s Trivia Challenge has begun. The 2017 Trivia Challenge will be held at the Sutter Creek City Auditorium on Saturday, March 11, This will be our second production of this fund raising event. The 2016 Challenge was a strong beginning and exceeded our expectations by netting over $2,200 for the benefactor, Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, RYLA. Those of us who planned and conducted the event, found it to be quite a bit of work but discovered it to be rewarding and a lot of fun for the competitors as well as ourselves. The success we had was shared with many of our fellow Rotarians who came forward to sponsor the event guaranteeing that the expenses to put the event on would covered. Their generosity allowed the revenue from entry fees and on-site sales to go toward club support of sending students to RYLA. The Trivia Committee critiqued itself with input from sponsors, volunteers and competitors. Most of the comments were positive and recommended only minor changes to the program. Our biggest complaint or comments focused on the 2017 TRIVIA CHALLENGE difficulty of some of the questions/topics, especially Art. We heard you and will do what we can to adjust to those comments without making the game too easy. This year we will again be asking for the support of the club to assist the committee in conducting another successful Challenge. Support can be reflected in many ways. Talk it up with friends and coworkers and form a team and compete for prize money. Volunteer to work at the event in one of the many positions needed to conduct the contest. And, provide financial support that will aid in covering operating costs. My commitment to this project, and the committee s goal, is to make it bigger and better every year. With the same commitment of the entire club we will meet that goal. The club s success will be your success. The committee and I look forward to your involvement and in answering any questions you may have. Please, get involved. 1 SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT The November Board Meeting for the Rotary Club of Jackson has been postponed until next Tuesday, November 8th. Following the Board meeting, we will take a club photo with the new Wood Angels Trailer that we bought for them. This photo will be used for a press release which will be sent to THE ACORN NEWS. Please plan on being part of the photo. Wear your Jackson Rotary shit of your choice and arrive early. The photo will be taken at 6:00pm before the meeting.

2 Rotary Club of Jackson Meeting of Board October 11, 2016 The Board of Directors of Rotary Club of Jackson met on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, by Board President Michael Flagg. The board meeting was held in the banquet room of Teresa s Restaurant. The meeting was called to order at 4:30 P.M. PST. Roll Call: Quorum Present. All board members present except: Tammie Crabtree. Others present: Denise Benson, Patrick Crew, Sharon Hampton, Art Long, Barbara Long, Richard Muller, D Arcy Porter, Michelle Porter and John Swift. Approve Current Agenda: MSP Dirk Wentling/Jim Wilmarth Approve Board Meeting Minutes of September 13, 2016: MSP Jim Wilmarth/Stan Lukowicz, all in favor except Dirk Wentling abstaining. President s Report / Correspondence: Correspondence will take the usual course We received a letter from Amador-Tuolumne Community Action agency AATCAA requesting support for Amador Lifeline program which offers a waterproof help button connected to an emergency response communicator unit. Item held for November 8, 2016 Board Meeting. (PLEASE NOTE BOARD MEETING FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2016 HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO NOVEMBER 15, 2016) Treasurer s Report: On File MSP Ron Floyd/Alan Robert Old Business: Wood Angles Invoice presented for payment, check was sent. John Bree dues past due amount $900. Letter sent as requested and referral to Rotary International Membership Development. Square fee structure $1.00 ($1- $50) $2.00 ($51-$100) and $4.00 ($101-$200), no charge for donations. Effective October 18, MSP Marve Hampton/Ron Floyd New Business: LOA Request from Lemonia Yager effective 9/13/16. Lemonia has a lot going on right now and needs some time off. She hopes to be back by the beginning of next year. MSP Ron Floyd/Alan Roberts accepted LOA through January 10, 2017 Secretary will send letter confirmation. LOA Request from Elizabeth Rhein requests an INDEFINITE leave effective immediately. She is willing to pay dues and fund her Paul Harris. She wants to receive club and district newsletters. MSP Ron Floyd/Alan Roberts to deny Elizabeth s request for LOA. Secretary will send a letter confirming and will refer to Rotary International Membership development. Requested Clarification of paying fines or donations for promoting a business during meetings. Board has determined that a member is welcome to promote his or her business during happy hour before meetings, as a speaker or by submitting an article or placing an advertisement in the weekly Rotary Tailings Newsletter. It seems that Fellowship and community service were the top two reasons why our membership is proud to be a Jackson Rotarian I AM PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF JACKSON ROTARY BECAUSE... Bowl-A-Thon 2016 is now Bowl-A-Thon 2017 Past President John Swift informs us that this year s Bowl-A-Thon has been postponed to the evening of Friday January 20, Stan Lukowicz has agreed to be the sponsor chairman for this event. Please help us get the word out as this event has a great history of raising money for many different groups in our community. Tina F needs OFFICIAL contacts for inclusion in stationery for the Bowlathon. This information will go out to ALL perspective sponsors and participants on the bottom of the forms. Please let me know what phone number and/or you would prefer to use. INTERACT NEWS Among the membership of the interact club are three 2016 Camp RYLA Students. The interact club has new T-shirts for this year which they will wear when they are doing their projects and community service. They are scheduled to do Christmas decorations on Main St, Jackson from November 11 beginning at 9:00am. Jim W tells us that he will be modeling the new T-Shirt at the meeting tomorrow evening. He also plans on bringing the 3 RYLA student to the club so we can hear about their experiences at camp and their plans for the future. 5
