1 Lions of Virginia 24-B Cabinet Minutes Blackstone Herb Cottage, Blackstone, VA Welcome/Opening The meeting was called to order at 9:45am by Lion Richard Speights, Region III Zone I Chair. Lion Paul Semtner led the pledge, Lion Kenneth Howard led the singing of God Bless America, and Lion Ollie Wright gave the invocation, pausing to remember deceased Lion Michael Oglesby and to provide an opportunity for others to verbally remember recently passed Lions. Call to Order District Governor Lee Winder thanked Region III Zone I for hosting the first cabinet meeting, Cabinet Secretary, Lion Helen Mueller, for coordinating the meeting, and the 76 Lions representing 26 clubs present. Governor Lee announced that the year s focus will be Teamwork and encouraged clubs to work together with community, district, and state projects and events. The motion was seconded and passed. Secretary s Report Minutes of the May 15 and 17, 2015 cabinet meeting minutes were distributed and approved. Motion: A motion was made by PDG Rich Evans to dispense with the reading of the May 15 and 17, 2015 cabinet meeting minutes and to approve the distributed minutes as presented. The motion was seconded; motion passed. Treasurer s Reports Two financial reports were distributed and presented by DG Lee as follows: Financial Report for 12 Months Ending June 30, 2015 Motion: A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the Financial Report for 12 Months Ending June 30, 2015 for audit as presented. Proposed Budget DG Winder also presented the Proposed Budget for and, requested a motion to transfer funds as necessary to address anticipated expenses for the year. Motion: A motion was made to transfer $9,420 from reserve funds to operational funds to address expected expenses for the upcoming year. The motion was seconded and passed. Motion: A motion was received, seconded, and passed to approve the Proposed Budget as presented. Page 2

3 Region Reports First Vice-District Governor, Lion Heather Jones-Lancto, reminded everyone that club presidents and secretaries are members of the Cabinet s Advisory Board and should attend all cabinet and zone meetings. A District Annual Award will be presented to an outstanding club that shows positive membership growth and dedication to community service. All club secretaries are reminded that the 100% President and Secretary Awards have to be presented to your zone chair and addressed to your District Governor within 30 days after the Lions International conference. Centennial Celebration Chair: IPDG Ray Mueller The goals include: Working with zone chairs and the district cabinet to encourage Centennial Service Challenge projects Working with zone chairs and district cabinet to conduct membership events to increase membership district-wide Page 9

10 Working with zone chairs and district cabinet to recruit at least one Guiding Lion in each zone to encourage setting up new clubs Promoting the Centennial Awards available for member sponsorship and club sponsorships using presentations at zone meetings and articles in the Beacon newsletters Diabetes Chair: Marianna Speights My objective is to provide information to understand diabetes, how to live well with diabetes, and ways to protect your vision. My goals include the following: Visit each club to distribute information, share resources and common challenges to prevent long-term diabetes related complications Provide overviews on diabetes and eye care (Retinopathy) Tools to be used will include DVDs, literature, heart healthy recipes, American Diabetes Association speakers, and resources shared to help people learn more about living a healthier life with diabetes. LCIF Coordinator Chair: IPDG Ray Mueller goals include the following: Giving LCIF presentations at zone meetings and increase donations to LCIF Communicating the LCIF Story by writing articles for the Beacon newsletter Setting an annual donation target of $14K Leader Dog Chair: M. Lee Winder (Report received) Three Leader Dog programs were presented during the past year to South Boston LC, Charlotte LC, and Appomattox LC. I am currently working with FVDG Lion Heather to visit Leader Dogs for the Blind headquarters and to continue programs. Known donations received totaled $9,688. Recommended areas requiring action include increased club visits and Beacon newsletter articles. Public Relations Chair: Lion Helen Mueller goals include: Better acquainting myself with LCI documents and training opportunities for this position Encouraging all clubs to improve publicity efforts by using LCI templates and data Submitting informative Beacon newsletter articles each quarter Trading Pins Chair: PDG Susan Evans When I have pins, I will post the information in the Beacon newsletter. 11 24-B Mobile Health Unit Presentation Chair: Lion Winston Harrell Due to remaining items of business and time constraints, Lion Winston was asked to continue his Mobile Health Unit presentation after the meeting adjourned for Lions remaining for lunch. New Business LOVF Raffle Ticket Distribution IPDG Ray Mueller advised that the LOVF raffle tickets are still being printed but will be delivered to all clubs as quickly as possible when received. Distribution of Club Directories PDG Rich Evans distributed the Club Directories and revision sheets. Presentations VLHF Awards PDG Rich Evans presented VLHF banner patches and Gold Star patches to Amherst County, Goochland, Lynchburg Host, Richmond Battlefield Park, and Richmond West Breakfast Lions Clubs District Awards IPDG Ray Mueller presented a Recognition Award to Lion Winston Harrell for serving as Region I Zone II Chair for , and a 2015 Script Pin to Lion Art Somers to recognize his continued support to our district as President of Lions 24B Hearing Aid Foundation. Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards were presented to Lions Linda and Rick Starling of the Mechanicsville Lions Club immediately following the adjourned meeting. Open Discussion Burkeville/Blindskills, Inc. Lion John Pleasants presented a donation appeal for the following organizations: The Burkeville Lodge A district facility serving blind and visually impaired individuals throughout the year and requiring $5,000 per month to operate. Blindskills INC A non-profit organization offering support and publications (one in Braille) for individuals just learning that they have a visual problems and deaf/blind persons not having computers or tape recorders. Club programs addressing either topic can be arranged by calling Lion John at (804) or ing jcpleasants@verizon.net Second Vice-District Governor s Remarks Lion Ann encouraged all to read her article in the August Beacon newsletter.
