8 TENANTS WHO FEEL THE FUND HAS ALLOWED THEM TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP TOWARDS EMPLOYMENT 3% 6% 91% Yes No No change Summary In total 35,000 was allocated to the Move on Fund group wide, 15k to both Cheshire and Merseyside and 5k to Ellesmere Port and Neston. Within the financial year ending 31 st March 2015, 18,880 was spent overall, providing essential support directly to our tenants. 66 tenants were supported group wide during the 12 months, 36 from Cheshire, 16 from Merseyside and 14 from Ellesmere Port and Neston. At a neighbourhood level a significant proportion of the supported tenants were located in Congleton, Cheshire. Applications were generally received within the target age ranges of and There was no significant difference in the numbers of male to female applications received group wide. There were at least 32 different types of support/training provided overall to the 66 tenants. The most popular funding request at 28% was for equipment which included PPE safety workwear, flyers for new self employed business promotion and care sector uniform. This was closely followed by driving qualifications at 19% which included different FLT licences such as Reach and Counterbalance, CPC driver training and a digital tachograph card. Being able to provide so many different levels and types of training enables the Move on Fund to be totally flexible in providing some level of support to our tenants, who are looking to improve their own lives and the wellbeing of their families. The breakdown by location shows that this flexibility is an important aspect of the fund, as there are no visible patterns or specific needs shared equally between the different locations. An overwhelming 91% of the tenants agreed that receiving support through the Move on Fund has enabled them to take the next step toward employment. 28 Tenants have entered Page 7 of 9
9 into employment after receiving support from the Move on Fund, 16 from Cheshire, 7 from Ellesmere Port and Neston and 5 from Merseyside. Cheshire Case Study 1 Nicola, a Plus Dane tenant was made redundant in December Determined to turn things around and not claim job seekers she decided to turn her hobby doing up old pieces of furniture into a business venture. After contacting the Cheshire Engagement Team she was signposted to the local work club for job support and blue orchid business enterprise advisors. In January this year she registered as self-employed and using her Facebook page to promote her work, the interest snowballed and she was offered shop space at Congleton Garden Centre in February. Through the Move on Fund, Plus Dane was able to fund the deposit for the shop space and give Nicola the support she needed to start her business venture. Nicola said, the Move on Fund doesn t just help someone Move Case Study 2 Michael had been out of work for 11 years whilst he cared full time for his parent. He attended the local work club in Alsager (which is supported by Plus Dane) and was referred for support through Career Connect who specialise in employment help for people who have caring responsibilities. He was extremely distressed with having to follow all the complex requirements of being on job seekers allowance. Unable to source any external funding to help with the essential FLT licence that he needed, the advisor turned to Plus Dane for help and the Cheshire Engagement Team discussed the Move on Fund. Michael said, I am so grateful for the funding that I received from Plus Dane. I had applied for so many jobs but was unsuccessful as my Fork Lift Licence had expired. As soon as I received my licence I was able to register with all the agencies Page 8 of 9
10 Merseyside Case Study 1 Mr T aged 18 years was offered an apprenticeship with a local supermarket chain, however for him to take up the position he needed to purchase safety boots and a warm coat. Mr T applied to the Move on Fund and was granted funding of to help him purchase the uniform he needed and he was able to start his new job. Without the assistance he received from the Move on Fund Mr T would not have been able to start his apprenticeship. Mr T said the coat and boots arrived and they are perfect, thanks you very much. Case Study 2 Ms G was offered a place on a two year hairdressing course, however, to start the course she needed to purchase equipment. Ms G applied to the Move on Fund for to pay for the equipment she needed to enable her to take up her place on the course. Ms G said I can t thank you enough for approving the grant in order to buy my kit. I can now complete a two year course in hairdressing in order to build a new future for me and my daughter. After suffering from post natal depression and being unable to return to work after having my daughter, being given the opportunity to go back to college and train in something I already enjoy doing is a great way to get me back on the road to recovery. Ellesmere Port and Neston Case Study 1 Lesley, 48 years of age wanted to develop his skills to give him a better chance of gaining employment. This funding helped him renew his Powered Pallet Truck and Counter Balance licence. After renewing his licence, Lesley was able to apply for jobs requiring this qualification and he has now gained full time work. Lesley s comments If it was not for your help I would not have been able to afford to pay for the refresher course myself. You have been very helpful and I thank you very much Case Study 2 Jake, 17 years of age wanted to start an apprenticeship course in Engineering, but didn t have the relevant personal protection safety equipment that was required. The funding helped Jake obtain the relevant equipment which set him on his way to a new career. Jake s comments Without the funding I would not have been able to get the safety boots and overalls to start my apprenticeship. Thank you Page 9 of 9
