1 3 rd Quarter SGP Summary Report Family relationships and education issues are the major issues in this quarter. Social participation and interaction also remains high with several new families accessing QMLC services and employment remains a challenge for many clients. Frequency of issues as identified in OSCAR stats during the quarter were: - 13% family & relationships - 12% education & training - 11% social participation - 10% employment - 10% life skills - 7% health - 6% accommodation Family and Relationships two families that had moved out of Goulburn to work in the Capitals have moved back to Goulburn. QMLC has been working with several families new to Goulburn who have had challenges around settling and family relationships. Education SGP clients continue to explore their pathways education and employment options with QMLC guidance particularly for school leavers. SGP clients are supported through SGP group workshops and referral to career guidance services as well as education and employment information services and sessions. Social Participation - The multicultural women s group and the youth group both continue to grow and have weekly activities including arts, craft, music, cooking, and excursions. The youth group has been very busy with rehearsals and performances at local multicultural festivals including Canberra African Stage, Queanbeyan festival and Cooma festival. Employment - Finding meaningful employment remains a constant challenge for both Chin and African communities as those with casual jobs such as the abattoir are often laid off when operations are cut back. QMLC continues to work individually with SGP clients who have or are about to complete their AMEP English language entitlements. QMLC s volunteer network - Volunteers assist with the community transition groups including the multicultural playgroup, youth group and women s group. The volunteer network continues also to assist with individual client mentoring. The volunteer network also continues to provide support for transport to medical appointments, sponsorships forms as well as mentors for individual SGP clients who are experiencing difficulties with health, depression, unemployment, or lacking confidence and life skills. Organisation Contacts SGP clients have been introduced to three new organisations in this quarter. These include referrals to South Hill Gallery to join the volunteer program, The Goulburn Club to which is a performance space for clients involved with music, and the BEC Business Enterprise Centre for information on starting a small business.
2 QMLC Client statistics for 2013/14 year to date Please note that as previously reported, OSCAR client data is inaccurate and seems to have been affected by updating all SGP client data recently. In Goulburn there are 28 Congolese and 16 Burmese Chin SGP clients which are not reflected in the OSCAR statistics.
