8 Anecdotal evidence As a group we are able to discuss any issues...or even talk about our own experiences I have learnt so much and have started using the information in my work and in my home I understand mental health and addictions a lot better, how the system works and what it takes to survive in this area It s a great class to be involved in. It opens my eyes to what s going on around me every day.

9 The course has removed the us and them and provided an accessibility to sought after knowledge. Knowledge to understand their own situations, free from the stigma of clinical questioning, analysis and labels. A small percentage of people access formal services so what is out there for the rest of people who are also experiencing issues around mental illness and addiction? The classroom has provided an environment for constructive dialogue to occur that has empowered the understanding of self and loved ones. The students which have enrolled in our program aren t necessarily the traditional working in industry student but are there to learn for their own realities.

12 Head Start A Study Grant for clients of the Auckland Methadone Service

13 Head Start Aims to support more consumers to study towards a career in the alcohol and other drugs workforce. Specifically for: Current AMS clients (No gate-keeping to access the funding) Wanting to work in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector Considering part or full time study

14 Head Start The grant covers the fees for one calendar year only. Money is allocated in a strictly first in first served basis. Promoted through pamphlets and progression (the CADS Consumer Team newsletter) Original proposal: money available 2009 and CADS Consumer Team has decided to continue for 2011.

18 Process decide which of the approved courses they would like to attend register these courses with Sheridan CADS Consumer Advisor enrol in the course once accepted the invoice is sent to Sheridan invoice then sent to Three Harbours Trust for payment.
