Sexual health services in Surrey Information for patients
Sexual health services in Surrey are changing From 1 April 2017, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) will take over the delivery of sexual health and HIV services in Surrey. What will change under CNWL? Over the next year the service will change to respond to the health needs of residents in the County. These changes will include: A one-stop-shop for all your sexual health needs, including GUM screening, treatment and follow-up and Contraception Improved access to services including more flexible opening hours Greater online support A bigger focus on prevention A greater emphasis on help for young people An extended Outreach Programme with increased access to LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception), EHC (Emergency Hormonal Contraception) and STI & HIV testing and treatment. This includes targeted screening for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea in under-25s More appointments available to book online Tools to help you manage your health from home, if you wish to. This service has been designed based on your feedback to Surrey County Council and NHS England who are the Commissioners for sexual health services.
Will the changes all happen on 1 April? Many of the changes will not happen immediately. It will be business as usual in many of the clinics for the first few months as we want to focus on continuity of care and get to the know the patients and the services. Where we do make changes it will be to enhance the service and we will involve you in any service developments. Where will the services be based? We will be operating from three main clinical bases across the County to make sure you have a modern service that is quick and easy to use and where you can have all your sexual health and contraceptive needs met in one appointment. We will be combining some of the smaller clinics into modern, larger clinics that are still easy to access but that offer more facilities to meet your needs. Will there be any outreach or virtual support? We ll be running community clinic in a box services to offer local STI & HIV testing and information and advice sessions. These health promotion events are designed to support the wider community with information and advice about staying healthy and making healthy choices. We will have lots of online resources too. We ll be launching a range of tools to help you manage your own health. For instance, we will be able to offer home testing kits so that you do not necessarily need to attend a clinic if you have no symptoms and just want a quick check for sexually transmitted infections. The home testing kits can be used in the privacy of your own home and if you need a follow up appointment in the clinic then we are here to help.
What if I have a follow up appointment in April or after? If you have a follow up appointment for a date after the 1 April 2017 or you are expecting a test result, then we will be in contact with you shortly after the 1 April Don t worry, your appointment will still go ahead we will just want to confirm arrangements with you. If you have a follow up appointment with the HIV service then we will also give you a call shortly after 1 April 2017 so we can discuss your needs with you in more detail and let you know what services we offer. This will include the options for where to get your blood tests done as we may be able to offer a more convenient location for you. Will I see the same staff I see now? Many of the staff will move over to CNWL so we will retain much of the expertise and knowledge. Any information required to ensure continuity of care will be shared with us, with your consent. Our staff will be part of a wider team so we have a resilient structure in place. This means if a member of staff is off sick you will still be able to attend an appointment and be seen.
From 1 April 2017, there will be three main clinics in Surrey: Buryfields Sexual Health Clinic - GUM, Contraception and HIV services 61 Lawn Road Guildford Surrey GU2 4AX Earnsdale Sexual Health Clinic - GUM, Contraception and HIV services 2 Whitepost Hill Redhill Surrey RH1 6BD Woking Sexual Health Clinic GUM and Contraception services Woking Community Hospital 3 Heathside Road Woking GU22 7HS In addition, we will run outreach clinics in identified areas of need. This service will include: Under 25s Chlamydia/ Gonorrhoea screening Condom Distribution Clinic in a Box Booked LARC clinics. The following sexual health clinics are being replaced by our Outreach and Clinic in a Box Offer on 31 March 2017 so if you currently use services at these clinics please telephone and we will support you so you can use the new CNWL services: Jarvis Centre Leatherhead Hospital Clinic Epsom Clinic Cobham Clinic Dorking Hospital Clinic Horley Young Peoples Centre Clinic Caterham Dene Hospital Clinic Oxted Therapies Unit Clinic Weybridge Community Hospital Clinic Walton Health Centre Clinic Staines Health Centre Clinic St David s Health and Community Centre Clinic Sunbury Health Centre Clinic Molesey Clinic Camberley Clinic
Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea Screening for Under-25s, Condom Distribution Scheme and Outreach From the 1 April 2017 we will continue to deliver these community-based services and support in the usual venues and areas. We are also exploring other venues and areas to make it easier for you to get help and advice about your sexual health. We know that you have lots of questions about the new services and we have answered some of these in this leaflet. If you have any further questions please do get in contact with us by calling , ing sexualhealth.cnwl@nhs.net or visit our website uk/sexualhealth To support the transfer of services Virgin Care will securely transfer your records to CNWL, more information is available at www. virgincare.co.uk/surreytransfer What do I do if I need emergency care? We will still offer emergency contraception, PEP and treatment from our clinics. Sometimes you may find it easier to visit a local pharmacy or emergency service instead, depending on your needs. Here is some more information about what to do: Emergency contraception If you require emergency contraception then you can attend one of our clinics or you may wish to walk in to a local pharmacy instead. PEP (Post exposure prophylaxis) PEP may reduce the risk of you catching HIV if started within 72 hours of the exposure. If you think you may have been exposed to HIV and would like a discussion about PEP then walk in to our services or go to the Accident and Emergency Department.
There may be other reasons why you need to be seen urgently, such as after a sexual assault. If this is the case you should contact the police or the Surrey Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Cobham on for further information and support. How can we access the service online? Our new website will have information on how to book an appointment, pre-appointment resources and a symptom checker to help you manage your health. Later in the year you will be able to book appointments online too and use videos to find out more about LARC (coil fittings). About CNWL We ve been delivering sexual health and HIV services for over 20 years across a wide range of local communities and our services are rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. How do I contact the service? Please call which will be manned from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You can also contact the service at Sexualhealth.cnwl@nhs.net Tell us, we re listening Our staff want to know how they re doing. Tell us what you think at and then we ll know what we have to do. If you are happy with the service you have received and would like to tell us, please speak to a member of staff in the first instance or contact our Patient Support Service. If you are unhappy with our services, please speak to the service manager in the first instance. If this does not resolve your problem, please contact our Patient Support Service on or at feedback. cnwl@nhs.net You can find out more about us at
