Dave Roberts, the City of Sanibel s weather consultant, will provide information on hurricane formation, dangers associated with different categories of hurricanes and the dangerous storm surge. 2. Gerald Campbell, Lee County Emergency Planning Chief, will review Lee County s responsibilities and go over Hurricane Planning for families. 3. Debbie Quimby, Lee County Emergency Operations Will Discuss the Special Needs Program Hurricane Seminar Speakers 4. Captain Tim Barrett, Sanibel Fire-Rescue District will discuss the Fire Department s role 5. Harold Law, City of Sanibel Building Official will discuss city building codes affecting storm mitigation. 6. Lt. William Dalton, new City of Sanibel Emergency Management Director will discuss evacuations and the city s re-entry hangtag program.

24 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags The 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtag Program The purpose of this presentation is to help inform the public of this years hurricane hangtag program and to reiterate The importance of early preparation before a Hurricane.

25 2013 Hurricane Hangtags If I obtained a Hurricane Permit in 2012, do I still need to get a new 2013 Residential or Commercial Hangtag? No, Chief Tomlinson has extended the use of the 2012 hangtag through 2013.

26 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags Residential Hangtags There will be a limit of 1 Residential Hurricane Hangtags per household. The Colors of the 2012/13 are Orange for residential and Blue for Commercial. Zone Numbers remain on Residential Hangtags only.

27 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags What do I need to get a 2012/13 Residential Hurricane Hangtag? We will require ONE of the following for residential Hurricane Hangtags: A Valid Florida Drivers License with a physical Sanibel or Captiva address (Not a P.O. Box) A person having a P.O. Box on their driver s license will need to produce a document with a physical island address. This can include one of the following

28 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags A copy of your tax bill. One of the following is required. A valid Florida License with a Sanibel or Captiva address A copy of your deed, mortgage document or rental agreement. A copy of a Sanibel or Captiva Utility bill with your name and local address. A valid and current county voter s registration card with a current Sanibel or Captiva address.

29 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags Commercial Hangtags Commercial Hangtags will be issued to facilitate the damage assessment process. Business owners will select a core group of employees to assess commercial business damage and report back to the business owner and other employees.

Businesses based on Sanibel Locally certified contractors Sate Certified Contractors Other bus. operating on Sanibel All bus. based on Captiva Sanibel Business Tax Receipt Sanibel Cont. Competency Card File with Sanibel Bldg. Dept Sanibel Business Tax Receipt Lee County Business License

31 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags Why Are Hangtags Important? Hurricane hangtags maximize security measures while providing authorized persons access to their property. Hurricane hangtags could expedite your return back onto Sanibel or Captiva. If warranted, Hurricane hangtags could assist in phased re-entry back onto Sanibel and Captiva.

32 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags I Have Both Residential and Commercial Property What Should I Do? You can fill out applications for both Residental and Commercial hangtags separately, and receive both Residential and Commercial Hurricane Hangtags.

33 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags Where do I and how do I obtain my new 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtag? You may apply in person at the Sanibel Police Department between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. You may apply on line at with the proper documentation. You may fax an application to , with proper documentation to the attention of the Emergency Management Division, Sanibel Police Department.

34 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags What do the 2012/13 Residential Hurricane Hangtags look like and how are they packaged? You will receive the Residential Hurricane Booklet. The Hurricane Booklet contains important information and valuable phone numbers.

35 2012/13 Hurricane Hangtags Residential Hurricane Hangtag The Hurricane Booklet contains your 2012/13 Residential Hurricane hangtag. The 2012/13 Residential Hangtag is Orange in color and will display your Zone number.
