2 COMMON PROBLEMS Low reitance to heating, mixing, grinding and pelletizing are common phyical-mechanical problem occurring when we ue rumen-bypa methionine. It may happen that an efficient "phyicalmechanical" protection doe not allow a atifying biological availability of methionine in the gut. From the point of view of biological availability, a limit can be repreented by hydrogenated lipid ued to coat and protect methionine. Thee lipid have a melting point of 60 C and are difficult to be digeted. An "ideal" product hould combine: high rumen bypa degree high digetibility in the gut mainteinance of high protection degree and rumen bypa value alo during production tep like mixing, grinding and pelletizing lat but not leat.. competitive price SOLUTIONS The coating technology developed by SILO protect methionine in methio-by through a lipid film having high melting temperature (higher than 100 C) and a pecial ph-enitive chemical tructure. The pecial lipid tructure urround each methionine micro-granule contained in the mall phere and protect methionine micro-granule even in cae the phere i grinded and / or cut. At rumen ph the lipid film of methio-by remain intact, while it break when the ph i lower than 5: o the methionine i made available already in the abomaum. Thi explain why the methionine contained in methio-by i characterized by high rumen bypa degree: 90%, and high intetinal availability: 90%. SILO R&D methio-by ha been developed and teted in cientific collaboration with the Univerità Cattolica del Sacro Cuore - Piacenza ("Nylon bag" method) and with the Univerity of Parma (method developed by Cornell Univerity).
3 COMPOSITION DL - methionine 30% Lipid matrix 70% QUALITY CHARACTERISTICS Ruminal bypa of methionine 90% Intetinal digetibility of methionine 90% Methionine utilized in the gut (gr/kg) 243 (*) Kcal/kg 4370 (*) Nylon Bag method, value related to 8 hour. methio-by i compoed of free-flowing micro-granule and i eaily mixable with the other ingredient of the feed. methio-by, due to it particular chemical tructure, i reitant to mixing, grinding and pelletizing. methio-by combine high rumen bypa value with high bio-availability of methionine in the gut.
4 NYLON-BAGS METHOD A reliable method to determine the rumen-bypa degree and the digetibility of protected methionine in the gut The NYLON BAGS method involve upending nylon bag each containing a known weight of ample, on nylon tring in different ditrict of digetive tract (rumen, abomaum, mall intetine) of cow fitted with appropriate rumen cannulae. Bag are removed at known interval and the analyi of the content allow to determine degradation of compound in the rumen, digetion of the feed and aborption of the nutrient. SILO carried out a large experimental program in cientific collaboration with the Univerity Del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza with fitulated cow in order to optimize the rumen bypa degree and the digetibility of methio-by.
5 DETERMINATION OF THE RUMEN BYPASS DEGREE methio-by wa put into nylon bag, placed through fitula in the rumen and removed at interval of 0, 2, 4, 8,12, 16, 24 hour. Time and degree of methionine degradation in the rumen wa evaluated. After 8 hour the bypa degree of methionine reulted to be equal to 90%. Reult are hown in the figure here below. Percentage of Methionine releaed from methio-by in the rumen. Trial carried out with Nylon bag method by the Univerity Del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza % of releae Time of releae (hour) DETERMINATION OF THE DIGESTIBILITY The digetibility of methionine in the gut of fitulated cow wa in evaluated with the Nylon-Bag method. Nylon bag with methio-by were placed in the duodenum and were collected after the digetion proce wa completed, from the faece of the cow. The digetibility value of the methionine contained in methio-by reulted to be higher than 90%.
