6 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND A group of growers founded Fabbrica Cooperativa Perfosfati Cerea The factory started the production of superphosphate 1952 Beginning of the production of granular fertilizers 1977 A blending plant was constructed (the first of its kind in Italy). FCPCerea begins to make tailored products Following the urban development of the village of Cerea, the factory was transferred to a larger and more modern site nearby the village of Bonavicina 90s 6

7 Beginning of the production of organomineral fertilizers Photovoltaic system on the roof of the factory (0.8 MW) 2014 Construction of the growth chamber for research and experimentation. Modernization of chemical laboratory for quality control of raw materials and fertilizers TODAY Obtainment of the OHSAS certification for health and workplace safety. 7

8 THE COMPANY TODAY The current position of FCPCerea, a few kilometers away from the cities of Verona and Mantova, is located in the heart of the Po Valley, in one of the most important agricultural areas in Italy and close to all major highways in the country: a strategic point for logistic and distribution. At our office you will find the production units of complex granular fertilizers NPK-NP-PK mineral and organic-mineral, the blending and packaging plant with double sifting and dedusting, as well as to a large area of storage. All systems are computerized and automated to ensure maximum flexibility and timeliness to satisfy the demands of the customers. FCPCerea is able to produce and trade a range of varied and complete formulated, both simple and complex. FCPCerea is able of preparing specific formulations based on the analysis of soil and cultivation requirements, to satisfy the needs of individual farmers. FCPCerea has the possibility to make products tailored for industrial partners. FCPCerea owns equipped laboratories both for the quality control of the raw materials, and for the research and development of new products. The final objective of the company is to guarantee highly effective products that are able to maintain over time their quality standards. Recently, the company has invested in the construction of a photovoltaic plant with a power of 0.8 MW. which has as its objective a greater energy savings. 14 LEGEND OF ICONS The Quality Mark is a collective mark identified by a logo that allows to identify companies that have agreed to operate in quality during the production of fertilizers and management of the business system. Phosphorus, expressed on the label as P 2 O 5 (phosphorus pentoxide), is a few mobile element in the soil and its solubility is undoubtedly a quality index of the product and of the nutrient availability for the plant. The use of this family of formulations is characterized by the gradual release of nitrogen, reducing the losses due to volatilization phenomena and run-off. This increases the efficiency of nitrogen fertilization. Responsible Care is the global chemical industry voluntary program based on the implementation of the principles and practices relating to safety and health of the employees, to environmental protection and to the communication of the results achieved, toward a continuous significant and tangible improvement. Currently the program Responsible Care is adopted by more than 10,000 chemical companies, in more than 50 countries worldwide. The organic-mineral fertilizers that have this icon are obtained starting from organic material containing humified organic substance of high agronomic value. Active Premium and Fert Premium lines have a low content of cloro. The potassium contained comes from potassium sulphate. 16 THE IMPORTANCE OF PHOSPHORUS IN THE FERTILIZERS FCPCEREA Phosphorus is already in our brand! FCP Cerea focuses on the content but also on the type of Phosphorus (P 2 O 5 ) in its fertilizers as in the case of lines of complex granular (FERT and ACTIVE) where the phosphatic matrices used and the strong acid attack allow a high percentage of phosphorus soluble in water. Phosphorus is characterized by a low mobility: for this you need whenever it is possible to locate it near the roots to increase its effectiveness. It is retained by soil colloids, therefore, is not subject to losses due to leaching. The solubility of phosphorus and, therefore, its ease of absorption by plants depend on the reaction of the ground: in strongly acidic soils phosphorus forms insoluble complexes with the hydroxides of iron and aluminum (phosphates of Fe and Al); in neutral soils it prevails in the form of calcium phosphate, Ca (H 2 PO 4 ) 2, and dicalcium CaHPO 4 ; in basic soils for constitutional alkalinity (calcareous) it prevails in the form of tricalcium phosphate, Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2, insoluble; in basic soils for alkalinity by absorption (sodic soils) it prevails in the form of sodium phosphate (Na 3 PO 4 ) soluble. The absorption of phosphorus is favored in soils that tend to neutral, while in acidic and basic soils it goes to meet phenomena of insolubility (retrograde phosphorus). The phosphorus may be present in fertilizers in 3 different forms of solubility: - WATER SOLUBLE PHOSPHORUS: a sign of high availability and high quality, - SOLUBLE PHOSPHORUS IN NEUTRAL AMMONIUM CITRATE: good quality index, - ONLY IN SOLUBLE PHOSPHORUS MINERAL ACIDS: index of poor quality and not availability for crops. Thanks to the different types of phosphorus used, FCP Cerea products are particularly suitable for use on crops in soils with alkaline reaction, rich in carbonates and bicarbonates of calcium. CHARACTERISTIC OF THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF PHOSPHORUS IN SOIL: SOLUBLE SLIGHTLY SOLUBLE INSOLUBLE MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE [Ca(H2PO4)2] in H 2 O = 9 g/l with ph 2,6 DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE [CaHPO4] in H 2 O = 0,25 g/l with ph 7 TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE [Ca3(PO4)2] in H 2 O = 0,0005 g/l with ph 6,8 16

17 Reading the label Phosphorus is a low mobile element in the ground, therefore its solubility is a quality index of the fertilizer that contains it. Considering the main forms of solubility, at one extreme we have the soluble phosphorus in mineral acids only, whose availability for the plant is almost nothing, measured in months (acid soils), if not in years (basic soils). On the other side we have the phosphorus soluble in water of excellent quality because it is very soluble and readily assimilated by the plant. Between these two ends we find the phosphorus soluble in neutral ammonium citrate which is a good quality product too. Following there s an example of the labels of two NPK fertilizers, which differ between themselves by the type of phosphorus: the first with slightly soluble phosphorus Type 1, the second with soluble phosphorus Type 2. Equivalent Units were calculated for the two fertilizers, as required by current legislation, assigning a relative enhancement coefficient ( ) to each fertilizer element. In Type 2 fertilizer, 3/4 of P 2 O 5 are water soluble, and thus readily available for crops. The fertilizer units of the phosphate component are equal to the total P 2 O 5, resulting in a real assimilable phosphorus (coefficient of relative enhancement equal to 1). In Type 1 fertilizer instead, the 3/4 of the total P2O5 in the product are soluble in mineral acids only, causing a significant decrease of the Equivalent Unit: equal to 9.5 (see table 3 - sum of the three forms of phosphorus). There s a shortfall of 10.5 considering the Type 2 fertilizer. Phosphorus soluble in mineral acids has a relative enhancement coefficient of 0.3. So be careful with too cheap fertilizers: not always they really are! These fertilizers are unnecessary for the crops, as the phosphorus is in insoluble form and unusable for the plant. 20 THE ORGANIC MATTER, THE HUMUS AND HUMIC ACIDS IN OUR FERTILIZERS The soil is formed by a solid component (sand, silt, clay and organic matter), a liquid component (water) and a gaseous one (oxygen and carbon dioxide). Among the solid compounds the organic matter plays an important role because it regulates the fundamental properties of the ground (see figure 1). The organic matter is composed of a group of compounds among which the most important are: the living biomass (roots of plants, microorganisms, insects, etc.) the dead biomass (plant and animal residues in the process of decomposition) humus (the final product of the activity of microorganisms in the soil). This is the most noble and important constituent of the organic substance. The humus is the most stable (more difficult to degrade) part of the organic matter and the most reactive part of the land; for this reason the fundamental properties of the ground depend on it. The humus is composed by humic acids and fulvic acids. The first ones are stable insoluble substances while the latter are soluble. This feature allows you to extract and separate the two components of the organic matter and obtain liquid or solid concentrations. FERT line fertilizers contain humic acids that result from a long process of decomposition of the vegetable matrix. 60 NITROGEN STABILIZED Some of our fertilizers are characterized by a gradual release of nitrogen. The advantage is a reduction in losses due to volatilization of ammonia nitrogen fraction guaranteeing greater absorption of the element by the plant with higher efficiency of nitrogen fertilization. Today, more than 46% of the nitrogen used in agriculture is distributed in the form of urea which, however, does not always maximize its efficiency. In fact when we distribute urea in the field, if there are no rains in the following days, the fertilizer remains concentrated in the first centimeters of soil and is subject to volatilization loss, because urea is hydrolyzed in ammonia (volatile compound) and carbon dioxide. If this transformation takes place in the first cm, ammonia reacts with water and transforms itself into ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4 +) retained by soil colloids. Finally, ammoniacal nitrogen is transformed into nitric nitrogen (NO3-) by nitrification bacteria. This form of nitrogen is mainly absorbed by plant roots but is not retained by the soil and therefore is subject to leakage losses in case of abundant rainfall or irrigation. Under conditions of water stagnation or soil compaction, the denitrification process can trigger nitrogen losses in the atmosphere (N2 and NOx). Organic nitrogen is subject to mineralization processes while the mineral component can be immobilized in the organic substance according to the carbon / nitrogen ratio present in the soil. The approach that increases the efficiency of urea is the use of molecules capable of inhibiting the ureaic activity (NBPT), thus delaying hydrolysis. ADVANTAGES OF USE OF NBPT IN OUR FERTILIZERS 1. Increased efficiency of nitrogen (REDUCE LOSSES volatilization), with consequent decrease of the doses of use and decrease in the number of interventions (MAXIMUM BENEFIT WITH LOWER COST). 2. Increased production efficiency (GREATER AVAILABILITY OF NUTRIENTS FOR THE PLANT) 3.Best vegetative-productive balance (STABILIZATION OF NITROGEN IN TIME)
