2 Background Alcosa was first established in At the me, our main product was dehydrated alfalfa, which was used as an ingredient for the animal feed industry. As our reputa on and experience increased, the company expanded its opera ons to the feed industry as well as to poultry produc on and laying hen farms. In 1963, Alcosa decided to consolidate opera ons to focus on the pigment industry, where demand for poultry and egg pigmenta on was steadily increasing. Since then, Alcosa has been researching and improving its products, making them more bioavailable, stable, and efficient so that our customers can achieve the most desired color at the most affordable cost. Leading into 1978, Alcosa began another expansion, which started in the U.S. and European markets, and later spread to Asia and Central and South America. In 1994, we introduced a high zeaxanthin product, which reduces the need of red pigments as it renders an orange tone on its own. Today, Alcosa is the leading company in the world that produces natural pigments derived from marigold flowers. Currently, our main facili es are in Mexico and China, and we have distributors located all over the world. PIGMENTATION IN POULTRY INDUSTRY Why pigments are essential In many countries around the world color in broiler skin and egg yolk is associated with freshness and good quality product, so color has become in these countries a label of Quality. Importance of pigments The color of broiler skin and egg yolk comes from the xanthophylls that birds consume during their breeding. Early on, it was observed that their skin (and egg yolks) became pale when the birds failed to consume xanthophylls. CHEMICAL STRUCTURES O Capsanthin Beta-Caroten As the poultry business became more proficient in the produc on of their animal feed, they began using grains and other feedstuffs that do not contain xanthophylls (as corn or corn gluten do), and, consequently, they failed to produce the desired color in broiler skin and egg yolk. To overcome this problem, natural or synthe c pigments began to be added to the feed in order to achieve the appropriate color and conform to customer preference. Zeaxanthin Lutein Not surprisingly, customers prefer natural pigments to their synthe c counterparts, as they are the same as those found in corn, corn gluten, and vegetables. Moreover, synthe c pigments are banned or restricted in certain countries making natural pigments the obvious choice.

3 OUR PRODUCTS Products for Broiler Skin Pigmenta on PRODUCTS FOR BROILERS is a saponified and stabilized extract from Aztec Marigold (Tagetes erecta) flower. It is used as a pigment in poultry feeds in order to obtain a golden-yellow pigmenta on in broiler skin, and it is also added to the laying hen feed to increase the yellow color in egg yolk. In addi on can be combined with natural or synthe c reds, when a deep-orange color is required. It is intented for large poultry opera ons. DRY-20 (PXA-20) LZ is a product wich is high in zeaxanthin content. The zeaxanthin is obtained by isomerizaton of the natural Lutein by propietary procedures. The zeaxanthin has a more orange tone by itself than lutein so the desired orange tones in broilers or yolks are achieved without the need of inclusion of addi onal red pigments. The LZ is available in liquid or dry form. Dry-20 (PXA-20) is a saponified and estabilized extract in powder form, with marigold flower bagasse as carrier. 4 RED HY C10 D-FREE New! PRODUCTS FOR LAYERS Pixafil RED HY C10 D-FREE is a natural extract of saponified xantophylls produced from several kinds of peppers of the Capsicum sp. Pixafil RED HY C10 D-FREE, free of dioxins*, it is used as a natural pigment supplement in layer feeds. The inclusion of Pixafil RED HY C10 D-FREE in layer feeds results in an orange-red color of the egg yolk. * Note: within allowed limits. RED Pixafil DRY 540 & 550 Red Pixafil Dry 540 & 550 are natural red pigments extracted and saponified from peppers and chilies (capsicum sp). They are used in layers feed and once metabolized, they produce an orange tone in the egg yolk.
