2 P A G E 2 7 Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Symptoms Taking an antibiotic isn t the only way to get over symptoms of a urinary tract infection. In fact, some remedies don t require a prescription and they can be done right at home in addition to any treatment your doctor has recommended. But be cautious with do-it-yourself home solutions and check in with your doctor before trying a new strategy. The following seven viable home remedies from drinking lots of water to applying heat and wearing loose cotton clothing may ease your agonizing UTI symptoms or prevent them in the first place: 1. Get your fill of Water Drink plenty of water to flush away the bacteria that is causing your infection. 2. Load Up on Vitamin C for a Healthy Urinary Tract Large amounts of vitamin C make urine more acidic. This inhibits the growth of bacteria in your urinary tract. 3. Soothe UTI Pain With Heat Apply a heating pad on low setting. Limit your use to 15 minutes at a time. 4. Cut Bladder Irritants from your Diet Caffeine, alcohol, spicy food, nicotine, carbonated drinks and artificial sweeteners can irritate your bladder further. 5. Go Ahead, Empty Your Bladder Again Every time you empty your bladder, you rid it of some of the bacteria causing the infection. 6. Herbal Remedies You may find some relief from taking the herb bearberry leaf. Take for 5 days or less. 7. Change to Healthier Habits Quit smoking, wear loose cotton clothing and underwear and choose only fragrance-free personal hygiene products.
3 P A G E 3 Spinach and Mozzarella Egg Bake Ingredients: 5 oz. organic fresh spinach (4 cups packed) 1 2 tsp. olive oil 1 1/2 cups mozzarella 1/3 cup thinly sliced green onions 8 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. Spike seasoning (or use any all purpose seasoning mix that s good with eggs) Salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste Directions: Preheat oven to 375. Spray an 8 1/2 inch by 12 inch glass dish with olive oil. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add spinach all at once and stir just until the spinach is wilted, about 2 minutes. Spread spinach into the bottom of casserole dish to cover. Layer the grated cheese and sliced onions on top of the spinach. Beat the eggs with seasoning mix, salt and pepper. Pour the egg mixture over the spinach/ cheese combination and then use a fork to gently stir so the eggs, spinach and cheese are evenly combined. Bake about 35 minutes or until the mixture is completely set and starting to lightly brown. Let cool about 5 minutes before cutting. Serve hot with salsa or a light sour cream garnish. This can be cut into individual servings to keep in the fridge and microwaved for a quick breakfast during the week. Don t microwave too long or your eggs will taste rubbery.
