1 % completeness/timeliness Early Warning Alert and Response Network Weekly Epidemiological bulletin Epi week 52 (24 th Dec 3 th Dec 18) Highlights A total of 5 (88%) health facilities across Somalia submitted weekly report in week 52. A total of 1,386 alerts of which 119 were confirmed as true were received in week 52. Completeness of reporting A total of 5 (88%) of 461 active health facilities in EWARN submitted reports while the timeliness of reporting was 81% (Table 1 and Fig 1) Table 1. 2 Proportional morbidity The commonest causes of morbidity among all age groups in week 52 are respiratory tract infections (Severe Acute Respiratory illness (), Influenza like illness ()). Other commonest causes of morbidity include acute watery diarrhea (AWD), Bloody diarrhea (BD) and other acute diarrhea. (fig 2a,2b and table 2). Only 3 new cases of AWD/Cholera with no death have been reported in 8 districts of Banadir region All the suspected cases of Cholera did not receive Oral cholera vaccine (OCV). AWD/Cholera has been controlled in Hiraan, Kismayo (lower Jubba),Lower shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions The cumulative number of AWD/Cholera cases since December 17 are 6,761 including 46 deaths (CFR.7%). 3 Measles updates There has been a reduction in the number of measles cases reported following the implementation of measles campaign in 17 The number of suspected cases of measles increased from 126 in week 51 to 163 cases in week 52 (fig 4) The most affected districts include Baidoa, Barawe, Beletweyn, Berdale, Galdogob, Galkacyo, Heliwa & Qoryoley Cumulatively, 8,74 cases of suspected measles have been reported since January 18 Fig 4: Measles Situation in Somalia from Week 1 to Week 52, Measles vaccinatio n in PL Measles vaccination implemented in SL & SCZ on Week 1 Epi-Week Whooping cough (Perusis) update The number of suspected cases of whooping cough remained the same in week 52, a total of 66 cases reported, the same cases were reported in week 52(fig 5). Most affected districts include Baidoa, Berdale, Burhakaba, Hobyo & Hargeisa. 4 Diphtheria The number of Diphteria cases increased sharply from 2 cases in week 51 to 5 cases in week 52(fig 6).
