CHRISTMAS OFFER HLT52015 DIPLOMA OF REMEDIAL MASSAGE [ONLINE] WORK ALONGSIDE SPORTING TEAMS, IN HEALTH & WELLNESS SPAS, OR AS A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER* RTO *Please note, NETQ and Q Academy does not guarantee career or employment outcomes for students.
COURSE DETAILS Course Summary The HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage Online is a Government Accredited course that teaches elements of Swedish and Pregnancy Massage, Trigger Point and Thermo Therapy, Myofascial & Positional Release Techniques and in-demand modalities such as Reflexology, Shiatsu, Thai Massage as well as injury management, exercise prescription, sports taping and manual lymphatic drainage. The online Diploma course is a great alternative for people who are located remotely or cant regularly attend on-campus classes. Online students will still receive incredible student support, learning resources and training, but please note it can take up to 2 years to complete the online Diploma course, compared to 1 year on-campus. Entry Requirements A sound understanding of written and spoken English is required. An interest in the functionality of the human body as well as the health and wellbeing of others is recommended. As this is an online course we expect students to have access to a tablet, laptop or computer, with a camera, microphone and internet access. Online learning requires students to be motivated and self-disciplined. You must be confident in your ability to maintain selfdirected study, and follow NETQ s schedule of lessons for the full duration of the course. Start Dates The course will start on Monday 10th December 2018, with limited places available. Course Length As a guide, it can generally take up to 24 months to complete the course. This is with an average 9 hour weekly commitment. We will provide you with a clear schedule to help you stay on track and meet your assessment milestones. COURSE DELIVERY All of your learning materials, tutorials and assessments will be completed using our advanced online learning system. However, while the majority of the course is delivered online, you will still need to attend a Q Academy primary or NETQ secondary clinic, to complete practical supervised training hours. This is a chance for you to demonstrate and refine your skills learned throughout the course. For the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage Online you will be required to complete 200 supervised training hours. To spread this out over the duration of the course, you can start completing up to 100 hours once you have completed module 4 (there are 12 modules in total). The remaining 100 hours will need to be completed in the final stages of the course. Please note that you must complete at least 40% of your practical training hours at one of Q Academy s primary clinics, from the list of clinic options below: Q Academy Primary Clinics Brisbane CBD: Q Academy, 20 Chester St, Newstead 4006 Brisbane West: Q Academy, Level 6, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, Indooroopilly 4068 Gold Coast: Q Academy, Level 1, Robina Town Centre (above Myer), Robina 4230 Sunshine Coast: Q Academy, 64C Aerodrome Road, Maroochydore 4558 NETQ Secondary Clinics Sydney: Health Space, 45/117 Old Pittwater Rd, Brookvale 2100 Sydney: Health Space, 1789 Pittwater Rd, Mona Vale 2103
ACCREDITATION Course Accreditation NETQ is a wholly owned division of Q Academy (RTO 31896), who is a Registered Training Organisation with the Australian Skills & Qualifications Authority. Q Academy is approved to offer the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage, which is a Nationally Accredited course. Private Health Fund Compliance At the time of writing, NETQ s course is eligible for a provider number with the majority of health funds. Medibank Private and HCF stipulate their own education requirements for the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage to receive a provider number. All massage courses delivered via distance education, remotely or online do not meet their criteria. Therefore, NETQ s Online HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage is not Medibank and HCF compliant. This means that NETQ s graduates will not be eligible to offer healthcare rebates for members of Medibank Private and HCF, but are eligible to offer healthcare rebates for members of most other health funds and utilise HICAPS for those eligible health funds. If being a Medibank Private and HCF rebate provider is a key objective, then we strongly advise studying Q Academy s on-site HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage, which is fully Medibank Private and HCF compliant. Professional Accreditation The HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial of Massage online course is recognised by leading industry associations such as Massage & Myotherapy Australia (MMA), and the Association of Massage Therapists (AMT). Graduates of this course may apply for membership with any of these associations, after graduation, once they have received their Record of Results. COURSE OUTCOMES Career Outcomes* Graduates of this course can go on to work alongside sports teams, in health, beauty & wellness spas, on cruise ships, or in their own at-home, mobile or corporate massage clinic. Some employers will require health fund provider status, so please consider if online study is right for you and your career goals. Jobs Centre Q Academy also offers their students and graduates employment opportunities using their online Jobs Centre portal, found at qacademy.com.au. It allows students to seek out the latest employment opportunities both locally and nationally in relevant and exciting industries. *Please note, NETQ and Q Academy does not guarantee career or employment outcomes for students. Study Pathways If interested in further study, graduates of the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage Online are encouraged to up-skill with Q Academy s on-campus 22316VIC Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy. University credit points are also available for students wishing to continue on to Higher Education within a relevant field. FREE TRIAL Want to get a taste for how our online course is delivered? 5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. How can you teach me a practical skill online? All of the course content is presented in a digital manual, and lessons in short video format by an experienced trainer and assessor. You will be taken through both the practical and theoretical material in an easy to follow, logical sequence. You will also receive one-on-one sessions with your tutor via Skype, which will help you prepare for practical and theoretical assessments. You can ask any questions, demonstrate your learnings and treatments, and receive real-time feedback, without ever needing to leave the house. 2. What are the assessment requirements and how do I complete them? We prefer short, frequent assessment checks, rather than long and dull exams. To complete your theory assessments, we will give you access to Cloud Assess (our online platform). From there you will complete assessments, receive feedback and see a list of outstanding tasks to complete. Practical assessments will be completed with a facilitator via Skype and will also be tracked via Cloud Assess. The final component of the course is student clinic. This is the time where you will perfect all of your skills learned throughout the course, gain confidence and experience treating members of the general public, as well as give you the opportunity to work directly with our trainers to refine your skills. It is required that you complete 200 hours of supervised clinical practice. 3. What if I can t get to a clinic for the clinic module? You will have the option to complete this component of the course from a range of times throughout the year. You will not be eligible to graduate until we have seen you demonstrate your skills in clinic, so we do our best to find a time that is convenient for you. It might be a nice chance to spend a few weeks on the Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast completing your 200 hours. 4. Why do I have to book my clinic so far in advance? We understand that you may need to make travel plans and arrangements to complete these hours. To make this process as easy as possible for you, and to ensure your time is spent efficiently, at the destination and time of your choosing, we require at least 6 months notice. 5. What will I need to purchase? So you can complete assessments and gain practical experience while you learn, we recommend students purchase a good quality massage table. This will be an investment in your future career as a massage therapist, should you wish to operate an at-home, corporate or mobile massage business. Although not required, we also recommend you join a professional association during study as a student member and purchase appropriate insurance coverage. This will cover your practice during study. 6. What if I want to swap to on-campus learning? You are welcome to transfer into our full or part-time on-campus programs at any time. Simply speak to one of our Career Specialists to make arrangements. However, please note that you may need to adjust your payments to match the Q Academy on-campus fees. 7. Is First Aid included in the online program? It is a requirement of the course that you complete HLTAID003 Apply First Aid. This is not delivered online. This can only be done via an on-campus program. You are welcome to visit one of our campuses on the Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast to complete this training. Alternatively, you may choose to seek a course in your local area. You cannot complete your program without this competency so please ensure you have a plan in place to complete your first aid training prior to your student clinic commencement date.

SUBJECT DESCRIPTIONS MASSAGE ESSENTIALS & COMMUNICATION This subject sets the scene for a career in the massage industry by covering: communication, goal setting, scope of practice, medical terminology, client screening and record keeping. SWEDISH RELAXATION MASSAGE The full body massage sequence; 140 Swedish strokes to reduce stress, improve circulation, assist lymph function and enhance relaxation. Students learn how to treat pregnant women, elderly, young and special needs clients. Also included in this wide ranging practical component is corporate seated massage. FULL-BODY REMEDIAL MASSAGE TECHNIQUES This subject is the foundation of students Remedial Massage skills and one of the most comprehensive in the course. Students learn assessments and treatment techniques, including myofascial release (MFR), neuromuscular techniques (NMT), positional release techniques (PRT), muscle energy techniques (MET) and therapeutic exercise. Students learn the anatomy, functional biomechanics and pathophysiology for each body region; vertebral column, pelvis, hips, knees, ankle, foot, shoulder, elbow, and wrist. STRETCHING TECHNIQUES & THAI MASSAGE This module teaches all the knowledge and skills required to stretch all the major muscles of the body, passively and actively. This allows students to give clients home care options and can help with injury prevention. The use of thermal therapies (heat and ice) are also covered. Thai Massage is a form of treatment that uses deep passive stretching and slow sustained compression. It is a great treatment that involves the client and therapist creating deep stretching and muscular release. Some clients find this to be a very uplifting and beneficial treatment. MASSAGE BUSINESS Students learn how to establish, operate, and grow a successful massage business. This subject covers best practice in sales and marketing strategies, business finance, excellence in customer service, leadership, and personal and professional development. HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY 1 & 2 This module covers cells, tissues, and each of the 11 major systems of the body and their integration and control. Manual therapy requires an in-depth knowledge of bony anatomy and muscles; this subject covers bony landmarks in detail and the origin, insertion, action and innervation of 63 major muscles which a therapist could expect to be treating. The student can also expect to cover nutrition and energy systems in this module. FIRST AID* The Provide First Aid unit of competency provides students with the skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid response, life support and the management of casualty(s), the incident and other First Aiders until emergency qualified help arrives at the scene of the accident. *Please note that First Aid is not included in the online program, students must make arrangements to complete this unit prior to commencing student clinic.
REFLEXOLOGY Reflexology offers students a short break from our science-based training. This subject introduces students to a traditional Eastern practice of holistic health which can be offered as a stand-alone treatment, or used in conjunction with other techniques to provide one super-treatment. Employers often favour therapists who can offer clients the broadest range of treatment skills, which we support and encourage. REMEDIAL MASSAGE CLINIC Clinic is the student s most valuable learning experience as a budding new therapist. Students plan, market, and run a public clinic within the college s established facility. Clinic is an opportunity to put into practice all of the knowledge and skills learnt throughout the course. During clinic, students practice and refine their skills under the watchful guidance and support of a Q Academy course coach. MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (MLD) This subject covers the functional anatomy of the lymphatic system (lymph, lymph vessels, lymph nodes, major node locations and watersheds). Students learn a full body MLD sequence that covers timing, direction, sequence, pressure and techniques. The MLD sequence prepares students to treat clients with oedema, lymphoedema and other lymphatic dysfunctions. Students also learn clinical assessment skills to determine indications and contraindications for MLD treatment. REMEDIAL MASSAGE ESSENTIALS Key topics include: benefits of remedial massage, scope of practice, causes of musculoskeletal dysfunction, sensory receptors and reflexes, pathophysiology, stress and adaptation syndromes, record keeping, indications and contraindications, and managing the recovery process. NEUROMUSCULAR TECHNIQUES (NMT) & SHIATSU MASSAGE Trigger points, more commonly referred to as knots, are a very common cause of aches and pains and associated with most musculoskeletal conditions. Neuromuscular techniques are applied to deactivate trigger points and reduce the pain they cause. Students learn about the signs and symptoms of trigger points, what causes them, and a range of techniques to treat them in 48 major muscles. Shiatsu techniques use fingers, thumbs and palms to apply a passive and sustained pressure to key points in the body; passive as it uses body weight, not force or strength from the practitioner. The therapy can also utilise passive stretching, joint articulation and mobilisation. INTERPRET AND USE INFORMATION ABOUT NUTRITION AND DIET Health is so much more than what s happening on the outside of the body. As experts in physical health, students learn to recognise the need for clients to address any issues with diet and eating behaviours which may be contributing to their poor health. This subject provides students with the knowledge to confidently give advice and recommendations about nutrition to improve the health and wellbeing of their clients. Clients who eat well, feel well.
