2 INTRODUCTION A pathfinder is a guide to the literature and resources in a particular subject area. It is a subject oriented research guide designed to encourage researchers a self-directed use of the library. The Reference/Periodical Section provides pathfinders basically to support students and faculty in their search for recorded literature and resources available at the S.H.L. Learning Resource and accessible on the Net. This pathfinder on PHYSIOLOGY AND ANATOMY consists of 81 titles of books; 15 titles of CDs/DVD s; 14 titles of Printed Journals; and 22 e-journals from online databases Academic OneFile. 3 PHYSIOLOGY and ANATOMY Scope note and definition: Physiology aims to understand the mechanisms of living - how living things work. Human physiology studies how our cells, muscles and organs work together, how they interact. Physiology, sometimes referred to as the "science of life", looks at living mechanisms, from the molecular basis of cell function to the whole integrated behavior of the entire body. Anatomy examines and describes the structures of living things. Anatomy studies the form, while physiology looks at the function - anatomy looks at what it is, while physiology looks at what it does. Physiology and anatomy are very closely related disciplines; they are intrinsically linked. Medical students tend to study the two disciplines in tandem. Source: ( 3
