Course topics begin with an introduction of anatomical terminology and an overview of cellular processes and tissue classification. Students then are introduced to the gross and the following systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and endocrine. Course Objectives 1. To know the anatomical terminology used to describ different body parts. 2. To understand the basic anatomy of human systems. 3. To correlate between histology and anatomy of different body parts Intended Learning Outcomes Following the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: A. Knowledge and understanding: A1. Identify different body tissues and correlate between tissue structure and location. A2. Understand and use the anatomical terminology. A3. Describe the components of each body system. B. Subject specific skills: B1. Recognize the interrelationships within and between different body systems. B2. Interpret graphs of anatomical and histological data. B3. Identify the characterisitic features for each body part. C. Cognetive and Intellectual skills: C1. Synthesize ideas to make a connection between body structures and functions. C2. Develop a vocabulary of appropriate terminology to effectively communicate information related to anatomy and histology. 1

The appendicular skeleton: pectoral girdle and upper limbs, pelvic girdle and lower limbs, false and true pelves, comparison of female and male pelves. Joints: classification of joints, types of movements at synovial joints, types of synovial joints FIRST EXAM Skeletal muscle: a skeletal muscle fiber, the neuromuscular junction, muscle attachment sites, principle skeletal muscles. Ch 10, Ch /Nov- 3-7/Dec The nervous system: organization of the nervous system, spinal cord and spinal nerves, external and internal anatomy of the spinal cord, distribution of spinal nerves. The brain anatomy: brain organization, protection and blood supply, cerebrospinal fluid circulation, brain stem, the diencephalon, the cerebrum, and cerebellum Ch 12, Ch 13 Ch /Dec /Dec Cranial nerves: classification of cranial nerves, origin and innervations of each cranial nerve. The special senses: olfaction, gestation, vision, hearing and equilibrium. SECOND EXAM The cardiovascular system: anatomy of the 3 Ch 14, Ch 17 Ch 20, Ch 21

4 heart, heart valves and coronary circulation, the cardiac conduction.system /Dec Blood vessels: structure of blood vessels, the aorta and its branches, main veins of the systemic circulation, types of capillaries. The lymphatic system: lymphatic capillaries, lymph trunks and ducts, primary and secondary lymphoid organs, structure of the lymph nodes, spleen and thymus gland Ch 22, Ch /Dec- -4/Jan /Jan The respiratory system: anatomy of the nose, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Microscopic anatomy of the alveoli. the digestive system: parts of the digestive system, layers of the GI tract, neural innervations of the GI tract, gross and,each part in the GI tract accessory digestive organs: gross and the pancreas, liver, and gallbladder. The urinary system: anatomy and histology of the kidneys, the nephron, anatomy and histology of ureters and urinary bladder The endocrine system: hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thyroid glands, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pineal and thymus glands.
