The protocol also aims to create a continuum of care for the patient across different levels of functional abilities. The protocol borrows principles from four well established treatment methods: Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), LSVT BIG, and Tai Chi. The protocol was developed in response to a perceived need for a more standardized approach to movement disorders to create a continuum of care and success across all facilities. Participants will be challenged to assess the difference between rehabilitation and habilitation and will learn to determine the relevance to our resident centered goals and skilled treatment interventions. The course will provide clinicians a lifestyle inventory to integrate into their comprehensive assessments. The focus of the course is the development of skilled treatment interventions based on the results of standardized tests, comprehensive evaluations and this lifestyle inventory. 4 6/24/2015 Sabre Springs, CA Skilled Treatment of Falls in Community Dwelling Elders 2 AOTA and pending CA PT approval This course will focus on the criticality of skilled physical, occupational and speech therapists to perform standardized testing, comprehensive evaluations and impairment related treatment interventions for an impact on falls in community dwelling elders. It will review the intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors innate in our communities and residents and provide tools to objectively assess risk. Clinicians will be provided evidence based treatment ideas to address functional deficits and underlying impairments identified with each resident. Documentation tips will be addressed to highlight the skilled component and medical necessity of rehabilitation for those residents at risk for falls.
