3 Dementia Capable Care: Achieving Positive Outcomes Day 1: Foundation The Foundation course provides all who work in dementia care a common framework about Alzheimer s disease and related dementias (ADRD), a best-abilities perspective, dementia stages, behavior management, and care techniques to promote the best ability to function. Course content includes: Alzheimer s disease and related dementias. The stages of dementia. Communication strategies. Support for families. The Cognitive Disabilities Model by Claudia Allen, the Theory of Retrogenesis, and Kitwoods Person-Centered Care. Strategies for responding to behaviors. This course is perfect for therapists and care partners who want a general understanding of dementia stages as they relate to identifying and facilitating an individual s best ability to function.
