DISTIN(;UISHING CHARACTERISTICS Occupa1:ional Therapist I is the entry level class in the profess.ional Occupational Therapist class series. Employees in this cj.ass initially work under close direction and their work isclosel)' reviewed; as experience is gained, they work with greater independence. Employees in the Occupational Therapist I class are expected to progress to the II class with training, experience and satisfactory performance. occupat:ional Therapist I is distinguished from the next lower level class of Occupational Therapy Helper, which is a nonprofessional class 1:unctioning as an aide to the professional staff. Occupa"t:.ional Therapist II is the full journey level class in the series.. Incumbents perform the full scope of duties, including assessment, planning and treatment, and may be assigned to the mental health unit of Natividad Medical Center. EXAMPL1~S OF DUTIES " 3 " 4.. Evaluates and assesses patients' functional status, using a variety of evaluation techniques, includingobservation, tests' and questionnaires Develops an occupational therapy treatment plan and goals for patients, including frequency and duration oftreatment, according to physician's guidelines Implements patients' approved treatment plans utilizing recognized therapeutic techniques Provides appropriate therapeutic activities to assist in improvement of muscular functions, daily living skills, mental rehabilitation and general physical condition; designs and constructs special equipment for individuals Consults with physicians, nursing staff, community agencies, psychiatrists, social workers and family members regarding a variety of issues, including patient status, treatment problems, progress and discharge needs, outside resources and referrals assesses and reports on patients status and progress on an ongoing basis; documents treatment and progress in charts 1 50F21/50F22

2 Reqistration: Occupational Therapist 1111 Instructs patients in activities of daily living and assists with adj ustment problems; consults with discharge planners to provide continuity of care 8. Prepares billings, authorizations for treatment and correspondence; prepares quality assurance records; conducts inservice training; may work on program development, policies, procedures and special projects 9. Maintains Department equipment and supplies; may prepare supply and equipment orders May direct work of field work interns, providing input for evaluation Attends and participates in a variety of meetings, including departmental, geriatric assessment and discharge planning; keeps abreast of current developments in the field through continuing education. QUALIFICATIONS Pursuant to Section of Title 22 of the State of California Administrative Code, possession of a valid registration issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association is required for positions in this classification. Knowledqes/Skills/Abilities A combination of experience, education and/or training which substantially demonstrates possession of the following knowledges, skills and abilities: Level I Working knowledge of: Theory and practice of occupational therapy skills related to mental and physical illness or disability Therapeutic techniques, including prevocational exploration and self care activities commonly used in occupational therapy 3. The basic pathology involved in diseases and injuries resulting in physical and mental handicaps Child growth and development. 2 50F21/50F22

Physical and psychological problems of the handicappedperson. Skill Ability Evaluate and assess functional status of patients Develop effective occupational with measurable goals therapy treatment plans Administer occupational therapy treatment to patients in accordance with approved treatment plans Care for and maintain equipment and supplies Prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation; prepare billings and correspondence. Follow oral and written directions Be flexible and competent in working with a variety of diagnoses and changes 3. Work in a dynamic environment 4. Communicate effectively with a variety of people in one to one and group situations Ability to interpret occupational therapy treatments to staff, relatives, patients and others Follow safety procedures and practices 7 Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work 3 50F21/S0F22

Occupational Therapist 1111 Level II (In addition to the requirements for Level I): Some knowledge of: Skill Hospital practices and procedures includingdocumentation, TARs, billings, authorizations for treatment and quality assurance reporting Age and cultural perspectives, milestones in adult life. including developmental Interpret occupational therapy treatments to patients staff, relatives and others. The knowledges, skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through various types of experience, education or training,typically: Level I: No experience required. Level II:therapist. Two years of work experience as registered occupational Both levels: Graduate of an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American occupational Therapy Association, the World Federation of occupation Therapy or another nationally recognized occupational therapy association. REOUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT As a condition of employment you may be required Work with, and in exposure to, potentially infectious and disorderly patients.
