8 Dulce et Decorum Est We will look at Owen s use of imagery to convey the conditions of trench warfare. imagery = use of the senses to create a mental image (sight, sound, taste, smell, touch)

Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.
