2 Mission Statement It is the mission of the Academy to provide the highest standard of training in the fields of Clinical Hypnotherapy, Transpersonal & Gestalt Therapies in a professional and caring environment. All students are supported to acknowledge, respect and accept themselves and others and to learn to relate with courage, clarity and compassion. Through Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom, the Academy will provide students with the necessary tools to step into the service of humanity. 2

3 Marilyn Newman Director of Training Dip. C.H. M.A.S.C.H. C.M.A.H.A. A.C.A, Marilyn has been practicing hypnotherapy for over 24 years. She trained at the NSW school of Hypnotic Science in 1986 receiving her Diploma and postgraduate Diploma in Hypnotherapy in She is a fully registered member of the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists & Australian Hypnotherapists Association. Marilyn is also trained in Gestalt therapy, Humanistic Psychology and Transpersonal Psychology. Together with Dr. Don Diespecker, Marilyn set up her own College in the late 80 s. They provided training in Gestalt therapy, Humanistic Psychology and Transpersonal Psychology on the Central Coast. Marilyn has developed an eclectic way of working with her clients. She has integrated Gestalt into her hypnotherapy practice, and she is particularly fond of Gestalt dream work, archetypal imagery and how these may illuminate our subconscious. Marilyn has worked with clients from 3 years old to ninety years old. However her heart has been drawn to working with children over the years. She has created a collection of C.D s for children aimed at enhancing self-esteem, life skills and literacy skills. Her C.D s are titled Marilyn s Magic Monkey World. 3

4 Sara Clignett Psychology Coordinator B.A. Psych & Soc., Post Grad Dip. Psych & Family Counselling. Sara Clignett attended Sydney University and obtained a Degree in Psychology and Sociology. She then went on to do her Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology and Family Therapy at Western Sydney University. Sara s experience varies from working with homeless youth at Kings Cross and homeless women with mental health issues to corporate psychology and pain management. Sara is currently in private practice and is partner at the Read Clinic. She also co-ordinates the Intern Programme for trainee psychologists. Sara treats a wide variety of issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Relationship and Family Issues to name but a few. Her particular field of interest is working with sexual abuse. 4

5 Tanya Field Gestalt Approach to Counselling Course Coordinator Dip G.T, Adv Dip G.T, Clinical Member of GANZ, Dip. C.H. Tanya has studied and worked in various social and therapeutic fields for the past 12 years. Including hypnotherapy, youth work community development and psychotherapy. She graduated from a 4 year Diploma in Gestalt Therapy at the Brisbane Gestalt Institute. Tanya has had a private practice in Byron Bay and now on the Central Coast where she has been practicing for the past 5 years. Tanya is passionate in her pursuit of building strong communities and sustainable lifestyle. As a Gestalt Therapist and Hypnotherapist she brings a deep commitment to relationship and a love for supporting others to live connected and meaningful lives. Tanya is the Co-founder of Terrigal Gestalt Institute, and was Director of Training until

6 Dr. Kevin Thomas Blake Coleman MB.BS. UNSW, Dip. Anesthetics, Dip: Child Health, Dip, Tropical Medicine, Master Public Health, FRACGP, FACRRM, Master GP Psychiatry, Cert. Gestalt Therapy, Dip. Gestalt Therapy, trained in Medical Hypnotherapy at The College of Medical Hypnosis. Over the past 30 yrs, Kevin has worked in a variety of positions predominantly in regional and remote locations in Australia and South Africa. He has worked as a General Practitioner and District Medical Officer, in a service, research and educational capacity, with a special interest in Family Medicine, and Mental Health, especially for Youth and in Men s health. His work in Southern Africa and Aboriginal Health has provided an opportunity to work in crosscultural situations, and he has had extensive exposure to traditional healing practices both in Southern Africa and Australia. Finally his work in rural NSW and Cobar, in particular, provided him with an in-depth insight into family health. He has a passion for Family Medicine and the impact of the unconscious on the health of individuals and families; this is the motivating reason for Kevin moving to the study of Hypnotherapy and Family Constellations. Dr. Coleman also works with the chronically ill and dying at nursing homes. 6

7 Dinah Buchanan M.Couns., Grad.Dip.Gestalt Therapy, RGN, PACFA Registered Dinah is the Director of Terrigal Gestalt Institute and is a Clinical member of GANZ. She is a Counsellor & Psychotherapist with many years experience in Counselling, Child & Family Health, Gestalt Therapy, and Group Training. She has offered Counselling & Psychotherapy, Supervision & Group Training for over 15 years on the North Coast, Sydney & the Central Coast. She has also been a Gestalt Trainer & Counselling Skills Educator for the past 10 years. She currently has a private practice in Neutral Bay, Sydney & in Terrigal on the Central Coast. Dinah s particular focus includes personal / spiritual growth, depression / anxiety and grief / bereavement especially infertility, pregnancy loss & neonatal loss. Dinah has a passion for assisting others to discover their inner strengths, move through difficulties, transform their lives and realise their full potential. Over the years she has also developed and facilitated many different workshops, courses and seminars to do with Personal & Spiritual Growth, Dream-work, Communicating & Counselling Skills, Relationship Enhancement, Conflict Resolution, Stress Management and Integration of Spiritual and Gestalt Concepts. 7

Certificate in Work place level 1V Training & Assessment For the past 14 years Raelene has had a successful practice at Wyong on the Central Coast. Currently Raelene is currently setting up a practice at Mudgee. Raelene has enjoyed a vast array of interest and studies all of which have aided her in her profession, where her clients have received great benefits in their healing process of self- empowerment. Raelene considers that she is a facilitator in the process of self-healing. Raelene specialises in Emotional Therapy and healing the Inner Child. Raelene is certified in working with the aged and has also trained nurses in working with the aged. 8

Marriage & Family Counselling Human Relations Training 1995/96 Brian has a Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy through the NSW School of Hypnotic Sciences and has taught Ericksonian Counselling Therapy to counsellors and psychotherapists for the past 10 years. Brian has been a clinical member of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association of NSW for many years and is qualified to supervise counsellors belonging to this. He is also a registered Supervisor for the Australian Counselling Association and his Registration Number is He is a professional supervisor for therapists registered with the AHA, ASCH, ACA, CAPA and other groups. Brian has practical experience in counselling and hypnotherapy in a wide range of therapeutic approaches, caring for a wide area of the community. His skills include crisis situations with families and particularly young people, marital issues and bereavement / grief counselling. He has special skills in assisting people with phobias and learning difficulties, smoking, relaxation and gambling. 9

Mental Health, Trainee Trainer at Terrigal Gestalt Institute. Deb is a Graduate Gestalt Therapist and Trainee Trainer of the Terrigal Gestalt Institute. She completed a Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy through the NSW School of Hypnotic Sciences in 2003 and is now studying a Bachelor in Psychological Science through UNE. Her passion is to work with children, encouraging and nurturing children s natural development through awakening connections to themselves and their environment. 10

11 Chris Davidson Member ACA (Clinical), AHA BA Couns., Dip. Pro. Couns., Dip. Clin, Hyp., Cert. Master NLP, Cert. Life Coach. Chris first became qualified in counselling in 1996 and since that time he has worked with young people, their parents and families in private practice and for various community organisations on the Central Coast. In 1998 he studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming and became fascinated with the trance phenomenon and the unconscious mind. In 2000 he graduated from the NSW School of Hypnotic Sciences and from that time has trained with world renowned leaders in this field. Specialising in addiction for the past 8 years, he is currently the manager of a gambling addiction treatment service funded by the NSW state government. In this role Chris has become a strong advocate and advisor in this field. He has addressed Federal Senate on Poker Machine Harm Minimisation, presented to NSW Office of Liquor Gaming & Racing and at the 2007 NSW Problem Gambling Forum. He has also educated health and welfare organisations on gambling addiction. Recently he played a major role in negotiations with Gosford City Council, making it the first NSW local council ever to officially recognise problem gambling as a social issue. His therapeutic style has developed into an eclection of Person Centered, Eriksonian and Existential approaches that also incorporate Gestalt and NLP methods. As a new recruit to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, he utilises this model within a Strength Based approach to his Life Coaching practice. 11

12 What is Hypnosis? Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, unlike what you see in stage shows, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The Hypnotherapist is the facilitator guiding the client with his or her voice & professional skills into a relaxed altered state where the healing of past, growth & trauma issues can take place. Hypnosis has been used in one form or another for thousands of years, dating back to Ancient Greece and India. However recent history begins with the Viennese doctor, Franz Anton Mesmer, in the late 1700 s, hence the initial terminology of mesmerism for hypnosis Mesmer found that simply passing his hand in front of people s eyes was enough to initiate a trance state. However the credibility of hypnosis in scientific and medical circles has grown since the remarkable contribution of men like Milton A Erickson & John Hartland. These men, amongst others, brought respect to hypnotherapy and the understanding of the unconscious mind. Nowadays more professionals have begun to integrate hypnotherapy into their practice to help their clients. Hypnotherapy has been found to be very beneficial in helping with stress, anxiety disorders, relationship issues, depression, grief, phobias, sexual problems, confidence and self esteem issues. It is regularly used with weight reduction and quitting smoking. Hypnotherapy has also been proven to be beneficial in many stress related medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and cardio vascular disease. Hypnotherapy is also a valuable tool in preventive medicine. 12

13 Course Structure & Requirements Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy Accredited with the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Hypnotherapy Association Australian This training program is made up of the following: Students may choose the subjects they wish to specialise in. Training hours must be at least 100 hours of face to face and a total of 350 of Hypnotherapy including face to face, study group, assignments required readings, tutorials and related studies. Also Students not applying for recognised prior learning must have completed 150 hours of counselling making a total of 600 hours for the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy. Students selecting extra weekends will be charged the students fee per weekend. Introduction Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy Advanced Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy Certificate of Introduction to Medical Hypnotherapy Certificate of Introduction to Gestalt Therapy Certificate of Participation in Basic Counselling Skills Introduction to Basic Psychology Course Times: Training Days: Commence at 8.30am each day and finish at 5.15 pm Friday evenings 6-9 pm Venue: 165 Willoughby Road, Wamberal Morning and afternoon tea provided. Enrolment Process & Payment All applicants are required to fill out an application form and submit it together with their references and a deposit of $ The deposit is held until the individual interview. A further $ is required upon acceptance into the certificate course where a study contract will be initiated. If the interview is unsuccessful the deposit will be refunded in full. Full Price of the Introductory Certificate Course is $980 balance payable upon commencement. This price will be increasing in

While the professional training course in Clinical Hypnotherapy is recommended to those in the helping profession and Behavioural Sciences, application are open to those with relative life experiences and those committed to self-awareness. Accreditation Hypnotherapy & Transpersonal Academy is a newly founded college and has received full accreditation from the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists. After successfully completion of the Introduction to Clinical Hypnotherapy Certificate, and the Advanced Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy you may join the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists or the Australian Hypnotherapy Association as an associate member. The course structure may change to comply with the accreditation standards as set by the governing bodies of Hypnotherapy, or at the discretion of the Academy s faculty. Introductory Certificate of Hypnotherapy 6 day intensive Completing all external required readings and study group Advanced Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy Module 2 The Advanced Certificate course is conducted over three weekends including Friday Evenings, also now introduced and part of the course is a one day student clinic with real clients under supervision, this gives the students confidence in working with clients. Also a requirement of the course is an external assignment of a 2,000 words, completing all study groups and required readings. This gives you Associate Status with the with the governing bodies, or if you meet with RPL you may be accepted as a full Professional member 100% attendance is required to receive the Introductory Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy & the Advanced Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy. 14

18 Students are required as part of the advanced Certificate course to complete a 2000 word comparative study on the different styles of Induction Techniques including, Directive Hypnosis, Eriksonian, the Gestalt approach to Hypnosis, Michael Yapko. This assignment is due on the Friday evening of the 2 nd weekend of the intensive course. Approx 20 hours has been allotted for this assignment. This is part of the Advance course.
