1 Technologist Brochure OAR Abdominal and Pelvic Oncology Imaging: The Rumour is Tumour Course Directors: Dr. Zahra Kassam and Dr. Andrea Lum Saturday, October 29, 2016 Target Audience: Radiologists, Radiologist Residents & Fellows, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Surgeons, and Medical Radiation Technologists This course will focus on optimization of technique, interpretation and the reporting of common abdominal and pelvic malignancies. Course Objectives: At the end of this event, participants should be able to: Review and discuss the individual strengths and application of multiparametric MRI sequences in rectal and prostate cancer imaging Optimize MRI technique and sequence planning Develop an approach to troubleshooting for challenging cases Report rectal and prostate cancer MRI using established reporting standards (synoptic report, PIRADS v2.0) Identify and describe the key imaging features surgeons and oncologists want to know and integrate them into radiology reports Recognize and assess the prognostic significance of MRI staging impact on patient management and effect on patient outcome Develop an approach to multidisciplinary discussions of abdominal malignancies»» The CanMeds roles being addressed in the course are Medical Expert and Scholar

3 Course Directors Zahra Kassam, MD, FRCPC Dr. Zahra Kassam is an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Oncology, Schulich School of Medicine, Western University. She graduated from the Western Radiology Residency Program in 2006, and completed a Fellowship in Body Imaging at Stanford University in She is currently the Director of Body MRI at St. Joseph s Health Care, London. Dr. Kassam has keen clinical interests in Oncologic Imaging, particularly gastrointestinal and gynecologic cancers. She plays an active role in guideline development and quality improvement, and collaborates frequently with her colleagues from the Departments of Surgery and Oncology. She is a member of the Gastrointestinal Disease Site Team Executive Committee, Southwest Regional Cancer Program, and is a Colorectal Cancer Champion for Cancer Care Ontario. She also serves as the Southwest Regional Imaging Lead for Cancer Care Ontario. Dr. Kassam is an Associate Scientist at Lawson Research Institute, and is currently involved in numerous cancer imaging clinical trials, including hybrid imaging/pet-mri of rectal and prostate cancer. She is a member of the Educational Exhibit Committee of the RSNA, and the Disease Focused Panel on Rectal Cancer, Society of Abdominal Radiology. P. Andrea Lum, MD, FRCPC, CCPE Dr. Andrea Lum has been Chair, Department of Medical Imaging, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University since 2009 and in 2011 became the first City-Wide Chief, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph s Healthcare, London, Ontario. Dr. Lum studied medicine at the University of Ottawa and completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology in She completed a Fellowship in Body Imaging, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Vanderbuilt University in 1989, and returned to the University of Ottawa to become Head of Abdominal Imaging for radiology residency training, which developed her interest in education earning her coveted teaching awards in the years to follow. Dr. Lum has taken active leadership roles within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph s Health Care since moving to Western University in As Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Program ( ) she became involved with Postgraduate Medical Education and has continued on as the Director of Abdominal Imaging for Radiology Resident Training at Victoria Hospital from 2005 to present. Together with her Division Chair of Imaging Sciences, Dr. Lum has developed imaging research at Robarts Institute at Western University and has fostered research collaboration through Biomedical Imaging Research (BIRC), which is a key university initiative. Her interest in education and research has expanded their annual London Imaging Discovery Day beyond their research/education venue to include organizational management and leadership development. Dr. Lum is also active in several provincial and national medical and diagnostic imaging associations, including the Ontario Association of Radiologists as a member of the Board of Directors. In 2012, Dr. Lum achieved Canadian Certified Physician Executive certification, affirming her outstanding leadership contributions and placing her among the best physician leaders in the country. Moderator Kari Visscher, MD Kari Visscher is a 5th year radiology resident at Western University. Prior to residency she completed a Doctorate in Medicine and Masters of Biomedical Communication at the University of Toronto. In 2017, she will be joining the Ottawa group to complete an MSK fellowship. Her research interest is in undergraduate medical education and the role of resident mentors. In her spare time, Dr. Visscher enjoys oil painting and cooking, especially with her two young sons.

4 Keynote Speaker Professor Gina Brown, MBBS, MD, MRCP, FRCR Consultant Radiologist and Professor in Gastrointestinal Cancer Imaging, The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College, London, England Professor Gina Brown graduated from King s College Hospital School of Medicine, London in 1988 and is a Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Gastrointestinal Cancer Imaging at Imperial College. She has more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, and has been the principal supervisor to more than 10 successfully awarded higher degrees in colon and rectal cancer. She had the title of Professor of Gastrointestinal Cancer Imaging conferred on her by Imperial College London in August As the Radiology Faculty Lead for the NHS National TME development programme ( ) and the National Cancer ActionTeam Low Rectal Cancer Programme ( ), she has been responsible for the training and roll-out of high quality rectal cancer MRI staging to more than 180 multidisciplinary colorectal teams through specialist workshops which have also been run successfully overseas. She pioneered the investigation of imaging prognostic factors such as MRI prediction of CRM status, assessing response to treatment, assessment of nodes, extramural vascular invasion in colon and rectal cancer and implications for patient outcomes. This led to identification of key imaging predictors of patients at risk of developing local recurrence and metastatic disease now being targeted for treatment in larger phase II/III trials. Dr. Brown developed staging criteria in colon and rectal cancer and standards for reporting now adopted globally. She initiated and developed the UK Deferral of Surgery trial protocol for rectal cancer patients in response to patients desires to avoid permanent stoma and defined the post radiotherapy MRI criteria to identify complete responders eligible. Speakers Patrick H.D. Colquhoun, MD, FRCSC, ABCRS Dr. Colquhoun is an Associate Professor with the Department of Surgery and Oncology at the Schulich School of Medicine. He is the Chair/Chief of Surgical Oncology and Chairman of the Gastrointestinal Disease Site Team at the London Regional Cancer Program. His medical training includes a General Surgery Fellowship at the University of Saskatchewan that included an MSc in Surgery and Subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. Dr. Colquhoun s clinical and research interests are in colorectal oncology. Masoom Haider, MD, FRCPC Dr. Haider is an internationally recognized leader in the field of Body MRI and prostate MRI. He is Professor of Radiology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute and a Clinician Scientist in the Ontario Institute of Cancer Research and the Radiologist in Chief of the Department of Medical Imaging at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He has published more than 160 peer-reviewed papers, holds multiple grants and is a member of the ACR Pi-Rads Steering Committee. Dr. Haider s ongoing work is focused on the assessment of multiparametric prostate MRI in the active surveillance and screening settings and detailed radiologic pathologic correlation of prostate cancer with MRI biomarkers.

5 Speakers Julian Dobranowski, MD Dr. Julian Dobranowski is a Professor of Radiology at McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences in Hamilton and the Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at Niagara Health System. Dr. Dobranowski completed his medical training at Krakow University, Poland, his Radiology training in Canada at McMaster University, and, in 1987, completed one of the first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Clinical Fellowship Programs in London, Ontario at the University of Western Ontario. Currently Dr. Dobranowski holds the positions of Provincial Lead for the Cancer Imaging Program at Cancer Care Ontario and Provincial Clinical Lead, Diagnostic Imaging, Access to Care. Dr. Dobranowski is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed publications and two radiology texts. His latest textbook Discover Radiology: Chest X-ray Interpretation was recently awarded the Radiology First Prize at the 2014 British Medical Association Book Awards. Mr. Ed Nitz Ed Nitz is a Nuclear Medicine Registered Technologist and MRI Registered Technologist currently working at St Joseph s Health Care London for the past 26 years. For the past 15 years, he has been the MRI Technical Coordinator. He is active in scanning on Siemens 1.5T AERA and 3T mmr biograph magnets. He is involved with teaching MRI students at Fanshawe College in the MRI program and sits on the Fanshawe College Program Advisory Committee. Having an Animal Health Technician diploma has aided in participating in veterinary MRI imaging. Gerhard Jonathan Romsa, MD, FRCPC Dr. Jonathan Romsa is Chair, Division of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Medical Imaging, and Chief, Department of Nuclear Medicine, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph s Health Care in London, Ontario. He has held these positions since Dr. Romsa obtained both his Royal College Certification in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine at Western University in London, Ontario, where he is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging. He subsequently did further training in PET imaging at CHUS (Centre hospitalier Universitaire) in Sherbrooke, Quebec. His current clinical interests include PET imaging, nuclear cardiology and epilepsy imaging. Amol Mujoomdar, MD, FRCPC Dr. Mujoomdar is an interventional radiologist specializing in liver tumours at London Health Sciences Centre, and Associate Professor of Radiology and Oncology, Western University, London, Ontario. He went to medical school in Saskatchewan, did his radiology residency at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and completed an interventional radiology fellowship at the University of Toronto. His clinical and research interests are in interventional oncology, including loco regional therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and neuroendocrine tumours along with liver imaging. Dr. Mujoomdar is the lead diagnostic and interventional radiologist for the HCC disease site team and the chair of the neuroendocrine tumour disease site team. Dr. Mujoomdar is also on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Interventional Radiology Association.
