Please use this directory to find a provider who meets your needs and is part of the Ridgeview Connect network. Know that if you receive services from health care providers or hospitals outside of your network, you will pay a significantly higher portion of the cost of those services. If you receive care from a provider or hospital outside the Ridgeview Connect network, your costs will be much higher and you may be responsible for paying the entire cost of the services you receive. If you travel outside of the plan s service area (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and western Wisconsin), you can receive in-network care from more than 653,000 physicians and care professionals and more than 6,200 hospitals in Medica s nationwide network. Free Meet and Greet a Ridgeview Primary Care Provider visit members selecting a primary care provider can schedule a 10-minute visit to meet with a provider at no charge. During this get-acquainted visit, the member can discuss the physician s practice philosophy and communication style to determine if they can work successfully as a team to improve or maintain the member s health. Members can contact any Ridgeview primary care clinic to schedule their free Meet and Greet visit. Free FIT wellness class series or training session members can choose to attend one free Ridgeview Rehab Specialties FIT program class* OR one free one-on-one training session with a Ridgeview Rehab Specialties Certified Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist. * Class options may vary. Choosing a provider. It is important to choose the right physician to provide for the health care needs of you and your family. The most common types of physicians practicing in primary care clinics include: Family practice physicians. These physicians specialize in taking care of the general health needs of people of all ages, from infancy through adulthood. They receive a broad range of training in: pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry and geriatrics. Internal medicine physicians. These physicians specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases in adults. They do not perform surgery, deliver babies or treat children. Obstetricians/Gynecologists (OB/GYN). These physicians specialize in pregnancy and childbirth and in the diseases and routine care of the reproductive system of women. Pediatricians. These physicians specialize in taking care of the general health needs of children, from birth through approximately age 16. Ridgeview Connect Provider Directory Other types of providers that frequently practice in primary care clinics include: Nurse practitioners. These registered nurses have advanced academic and clinical experience, which enables them to diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, under the direction and supervision of a doctor of medicine (MD) or osteopathy (DO). Osteopaths. These physicians care for people of all ages and focus special attention on the musculoskeletal system, a system of bones and muscles that makes up about two-thirds of the body s mass. They may prescribe medication and perform surgery, and they often use techniques similar to those used in chiropractic and physical therapy. Physician assistants. These practitioners are prepared, both academically and clinically, to provide health care services under the direction and supervision of a doctor of medicine (MD) or osteopathy (DO). Functions include performing diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive and health maintenance services. Find out whether the provider is board-certified and whether they have any special training. You can check a provider s qualifications by using the resources listed below. Accessibility. You want your provider to be available when needed. Ask about office hours, how long it takes to schedule a visit and how patients after-hours needs are handled. Some providers offer extended hours. Approach to preventive medicine. You want a provider who emphasizes staying healthy. A good indicator of this is whether the provider asks about your eating and exercising habits, such risk factors as smoking and alcohol use, and is able to provide resources and follow up. Reassure yourself: Check out a provider s qualifications. Do you want more information about the qualifications of a primary or specialty provider, such as medical school attended, residency completed or board certification?
