Populations Serviced:
7 There are 3 separate opportunities for internships at St. Peter Regional Treatment Center 1. The Special Needs Unit (SNS) is a program that provided specialized sex offender treatment to cognitively impaired individuals who remain at an elevated risk for engaging in sexually dangerous behaviors. SNS patients are deemed not able to benefit from traditional cognitive-behavioral sex offender treatment due to their intellectual and/or cognitive impairment, but are motivated to address their sexually assault behavior in a residential, skills-based treatment program. All patients are at least 18 years of age. 2. Minnesota Security Hospital (MSH) provides treatment for individuals who have been committed as Mentally Ill and Dangerous. Patients in this program are offered the opportunity to participate in high quality programs that address risk factors associated with dangerous behavior. STATE OPERATED FORENSIC SERVICES CONT. 3. Transition Services is a non-secure component of the Forensic Service continuum that provides psychosocial rehabilitation and treatment services to persons committed as Mentally Ill and Dangerous. Throughout the patient s residence in Transition Services, significant emphasis is placed upon increased skill acquisition and demonstration, relapse prevention planning, and community health maintenance planning. The program s major service deliveries focus of providing comprehensive transition planning which will prepare the patient for successful reintegration to a community setting. All patients are 18 years or older.
