Advocates provide individualized advocacy and support and are experienced in filing paperwork for motions such as anti-harassment and protection orders. Offers classes on boundaries and domestic violence victimization. Support groups, life skills trainings, and parenting programs are also offered. AARP Foundation WorkSearch Provides free employment services for mature workers/older adults. Paid community service is available if applicant is age and income eligible. Adra P. Berry Food Bank Operates a food pantry for anyone in need. Walk in; no screening is done. Clients report how many are in the family and what city they live in. ADWAS - Abused Deaf Women s Advocacy Provides a domestic violence hotline, transitional housing, advocacy/legal services, counseling, and support groups for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence who are deaf, deaf-blind and hard-of-hearing. Also offers a prevention-focused parenting class teaching positive parenting skills to the deaf, deaf-blind, and hard-of-hearing community. Al-Anon/Alateen Information Service Offers support groups for friends or relatives concerned about someone else s alcohol consumption. Offers special groups for teens and Spanish speakers. Alcoholics Anonymous - King County Offers 12-step support groups for alcoholics. Includes separate-sex meetings, groups for Native Americans, Spanish speakers and those who identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual. Some meetings have interpreters for individuals who are hard of hearing. Alliance of People with disabilities Offers legal consultation and/or representation in cases where someone s civil rights have been violated due to their disability. Provides skills training to help people with disabilities live independently in the community. Coordinates peer support groups for adults and youth. Assistive technology lab helps people with disabilities be trained on computers and other technologies that can increase their employability. Provides information and referral to other disability resources. Alzheimer s Association - Western and Central Washington State Chapter Provides an education and support services hotline for those affected by Alzheimer s disease and related disorders. Coordinates Alzheimer s disease support groups for family members and caregivers. Conducts comprehensive needs assessments, care plan development and follow-up for people with Alzheimer s and their caregivers. No restrictions based on marital status, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, home ownership, income or education. American Civil Liberties Union of Washington Maintains and advances the individual rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights via advocacy/legal services. Special interests include freedom of assembly, separation of church and state, death penalty, freedom of speech, privacy and technology, employee drug testing and prisoner rights. American Diabetes Association - Washington Area Offers information about diabetes to the public and medical professionals. Provides information and referrals to medical specialists and to community clinics for care, supplies, support groups and educational meetings throughout Washington state. Educational videos and books for children and adults are available. Coordinates recreational activities for youth with diabetes. American Heart Association Works to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Offers public and professional education programs. Also has listings of stroke support groups, including groups for caregivers. American Legion Provides emergency grants for rent and utilities to war-time veterans with dependent children. Applications for assistance take at least two weeks to process. Also assists veterans in pursuing claims through the Department of Veterans Affairs. American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific Works to assure lung health for the people of Washington state through research, education, community service, support groups and advocacy. Assists callers in finding the closest clinic that provides flu shots. American Parkinson s Disease Association - Washington Chapter Offers support services to people with Parkinson s disease and their caregivers. Provides referrals to support groups for patients, families and other caregivers. Will pay up to 20 hours for companion care services or skilled nursing care services per year. Provides individuals with Parkinson s disease (or their caregivers) $300 worth of taxi vouchers for one year if they are unable to drive. American Red Cross Serving King & Kitsap Counties Provides relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Provides language interpretation (rendering language verbally) and translation (rendering language in writing) for individuals and nonprofit agencies. Provides welfare inquiries and other critical support to keep the lines of communication open between military members and their families.
