1 Isabel E. Stauffer Meritorious Service Award 2003/2004 Sponsored by Pharmaceutical Partners of Canada Nancy Roberts The Isabel E. Stauffer Meritorious Service Award, sponsored by Pharmaceutical Partners of Canada, is presented annually to a CSHP member in recognition of prolonged service and involvement in CSHP. This award recognizes members of the Society for significant, sustained contributions to CSHP, primarily at the Branch and Chapter levels. Nancy Roberts received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University in After graduation she joined the Moncton Hospital, where she held various staff positions and served as Director of Pharmacy Services for 9 years before her appointment, in June 2003, as Vice President Planning and Professional Services. Nancy has been an active member of CSHP and has contributed to the Society, at both the Branch and National levels, through service on a number of committees and task forces, including service as the New Brunswick Branch President from 1987 to 1989 and National President for 1994/95. She is Past-Chairperson of the Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Residency Board, and is currently serving her sixth year as a member of this Board. Nancy has been active in research initiatives to support seamless pharmacy care services and is a member of the CPhA CSHP Seamless Care Joint Task Force. She is also a member of the Editorial Board for the Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Survey. At the provincial level, Nancy has served as the hospital liaison on the provincial regulatory authority s council and as provincial representative on the National Continuing Competency Committee of the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities. She has served as the chair of the NB PEI Pharmacy Directors Group and has completed a 2-year appointment (January 2000 to January 2002) on the New Brunswick Premier s Health Quality Council. Her affiliation with the College of Pharmacy at Dalhousie University has been through membership in Nancy Roberts receives the Meritorious Service Award from Randy Hughes of Pharmaceutical Partners of Canada at the 2004 Professional Practice Conference. the Hospital Pharmacy Working Group on Curricular Changes for Experiential Rotations and as a member of the Hospital Pharmacy Residency Liaison Committee. Nancy is supported and inspired by a very patient and loving family: her husband, Thomas Landry, and their children, Alina (17 years), Olivier (13 years), and Ana (10 years). 127
2 Distinguished Service Award 2003/2004 Sponsored by Janssen Ortho (Canada) Inc Garry King The Distinguished Service Award, sponsored by Janssen Ortho (Canada) Inc, is presented annually to a CSHP member in recognition of outstanding achievement in hospital pharmacy practice. The award recognizes significant ongoing contributions to hospital pharmacy practice and to CSHP at the national, branch, and local levels. Garry King received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan in After graduation he enrolled in a residency program at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina. Except for a brief time spent as a staff pharmacist at Joseph Brandt Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario, Garry has worked as a staff pharmacist and manager in hospitals in Regina. His current position is Manager of Pharmacy Resources for the Regina Qu Appelle Health Region. For the past 32 years Garry has been serving in some capacity with provincial and national pharmacy associations in Canada. He has been a member of CSHP for more than 30 years, contributing at both the Branch and National levels. In addition to serving on a number of task forces and committees, he was Saskatchewan Branch President for CSHP in 1981/82. He is a past Branch Delegate to CSHP National Council and was CSHP National President in 1990/91. Garry is currently a member of the Governance Task Force for CSHP National and is a member of the Finance Committee for the Saskatchewan Branch of CSHP. Garry has also served on the Council of Delegates and Board of the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA). In 2000/01 he served as the President of CPhA. At the provincial level, Garry was part of a committee that developed a pharmacy presentation for the Fyke Commission on Health Care. Garry has also chaired the multidisciplinary Board for the Advanced Clinical Nursing program. He was also chosen to represent pharmacy managers on a strategic planning committee for the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacists (formerly the Saskatchewan Pharmaceutical Association). At the national level, Garry has been a member of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada, met with Garry King receives the CSHP Distinguished Service Award from John Harvey of Janssen Ortho (Canada) Inc. at the 2004 Professional Practice Conference Anne McLellan when she was Minister of Health to discuss the role of the pharmacist, and met with the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada to advocate for the role of the pharmacists in health care reform. Garry s involvement in CSHP and other pharmacy organizations has been supported by his wife, Arlene, and their son and daughter, Geoff and Jody. 128
